You seem to have stumbled upon my journal and you are welcome to stay and have a look around. Here are some things that you may be wondering about:

Kat: Female, fabulously in my forties, Finnish but living in the UK, academic, university lecturer, writer, poet, fandom slut, geeky, polyamorous, pansexual, kinky, romantic, fluffy-headed, soft-hearted, open-minded, strong-willed, observant, introspective, over-analytical, assertive, prone to working way too much, sarcastic, silly, tactile. Also into cats (not like that) and woolly socks (maybe a little bit like that).

Fandoms: All of them, all the time? I don't really leave fandoms so much as collect them and then become less active in them. But I always return to them eventually. I consume fanworks and media far more widely than I produce fanworks, and I've produced fanworks in... *goes to count* over 70 fandoms so... You can check my (always woefully out of date) list of interests or AO3 profile MistressKat to get an idea. Or ask what my current obsession is and I'll happily elaborate.

Other social media presence: Uhhh... Not really. DW remains my main presence on the web, largely because I don't have mental energy to maintain a lot of social media (I'm one of those people who never got a Facebook even!). I have a locked poetry journal on DW as well for my own work: boneverse

Fanworks: Apart for some co-authored verses and older graphics/icons that need to be migrated, everything should be on my AO3. I also still post things on DW (nostalgia) and here you can find things under relevant tags such as my fanfiction or my graphics.

Transformative works policy? YES, DO IT! I welcome all transformative works based on my fanworks. Please feel free to remix, make fanart, podfic, fanmixes etc. However, I ask that you a) acknowledge my work and link to it, and b) please, please drop me a line somewhere (comment here, pm, AO3...) about it because I want to squee and admire!

I've just done a larger than expected friends cut.

If I defriended you, it was because I haven't heard you from ages and thus assume you're no longer around/it hasn't felt like we ever really connected/we no longer have interests in common. Please don't take it personally as you are all awesome people and I wish you all the best.

If you think I've made a grievous mistake (entirely possible!) and would like to stay on my flist for whatever reason, then please let me know and I'll be happy to add you back.

I am currently transcribing interviews. Yes, I know it's a holiday, but I'll be having some time off next weekend so needs must blahblah.

However, random other things:

- Last night I had a dream that Gabe Saporta was installing new windows into my house. IDEK. I was trying to convince him to make his window installation business into a charity.

- The night before that, I had a dream with a shirtless Kris Allen. Unfortunately it was completely PG-rated.

- I have not eaten any Easter eggs/bunnies/other chocolatey goodness this weekend. Instead I have eaten Chinese, banana teabread, bacon sandwiches, honeydew melon, chirpy chick cupcakes (no actual chicks were used in the production of these cupcakes), and tangerines.

- New LJ layout/tagline. Change is good. icon overhaul later today.

- Speaking of. I need to find shiny icons in the following fandoms: SGA (Ronon's slinky hips!), Psych, Who (esp. the Christmas eps, needs me some scruffy!Master), FlashForward, House (season 5, which is what I'm going through at the moment), Glee, HIMYM. Any comms or icon makers you could recommend? Self-pimps are always welcome!

- Fic, fic, fic, want to write moar! Stupid RL and stupid thesis commitments. *shakes feeble fist and goes back to transcribing*

A) I would like to know who you are and why you've friended me.

I know I’ve been very quiet lately because of marking-teaching-fieldwork-meetings-interviews-personal issues-etc. I just haven’t had the time for fandom squee or activities of any kind. And even when I’d had the time I’ve felt too drained to write episode reviews or fic. If you’re here for fandom, then it’ll be quiet for a while longer I’m afraid. So, with that in mind, feel free to exit quietly to the stage left.

After hours of tedious coding and copy-pasting, I'm happy to announce that my Fic Masterlist has been tidied, updated and is once more open for public. Enjoy.

Just a quick clean-up. Mainly I let go people who had defriended me or had never friended me back despite asking to be added in the first place.

Um, so I'm maybe considering doing another friends cut in a few days. I'm ambivalent about this because on one hand it seems like a slightly obnoxious thing to do, but on the other there are people on my flist that I don't seem to have that much in common with anymore and I doubt are particularly interested in my journal, and who still, by default, have access to my RL posts and other flocked entries. So, if you feel you fit this category this might be the time to make the first move and remove me from your flist, no explanation needed and no hard feelings.

omg LJ wtf?

So, for some inexplicable reason LJ has just decided the fuck up the coding for my Fic Masterlist post (only thing I did was edit one link and the whole thing just kind of exploded). As it is horribly messy, I have made the post private until such time that I have time to sort it (read: redo from the beginning). So, um, FYI, it's not gone for good and in the meanwhile in the unlikely case you are seized by a sudden urge to find any of my old fics, just hit the my fanfiction or my original fic tags.

...aaaaaaand I'm done! After, um, forever, I've changed my layout. \o/ You should all go see my new sub!Jon header made by the talented and generous and all-around amazing razorxrosary who took my requested photo/quote combo and created something beautiful. Go admire!

So recently I seem to have gathered a lot of new friends from all over and from various fandoms. HI NEW FRIENDS, YOU ARE SHINY!

Anyway, I thought I'd post something here about a couple of things.


Filters - pffffft, don't use them. In general I simply use the public/f-locked division on my posts. Everything fandom related (fics, squee, recs, reviews) is public. Everything else (real life posts, music downloads, some random bits of original prose) are f-locked. I have like one filter and even that turned out to be a waste of time because most people wanted in on it and the time I spent organising it could have been used for something more productive like writing porn. Um. Anyway, the point is: I'm chronically multi-fandom and make no apologies for it. So if my current obsession is not the one you originally friended me for, you can

    a) skip over the entries that don't interest you. Really, this is why God created the scroll button.
    b) stick it out because I will inevitably return to old loves (yes, even SGA, there have been drabbles lately and I'm writing something for sga_santa )
    c) de-friend me if you decide that me cluttering your f-list with things you don't care about is not worth the trouble anymore. No hard feelings, I promise.

Friending - I have a whole separate post about friending here. Gratifyingly most people get the point and come and say hi when they friend me, in which case I'm more than happy to friend them back. If I haven't friended you back, it's simply because I haven't really "met" you, not because I hate your guts or anything. Please drop by and introduce yourself if you want me to friend you back. If not, then never mind... as you were, I guess.
