Two days left of my holiday and I've gone fully feral, just eating pizza and writing porn/fic in my underpants. 

Anyway.

Anyway, TXT's latest album is also getting some repeat listens from me. I am, particularly in love with

Yeonjun's solo which is extremely catch. Also I spent most of the video trying to figure where in the UK it was filmed. I default to London but am not actually sure here. 


The absolute surprise favourite of the album, for me, however, was Taehyun's Bird of Night that had my bottom lip wobbling. The lyrics.



Special mention to the absolutely stunning cinematography in Beomguy's solo though. The song, whilst pretty, didn't really hit with me, but the visuals inside the hot air balloon are amazing:

This is of little interest to anyone but me but wouldn't you know it's my blog so I'm going to post about it anyway.

2023: First time I did the Spooktober challenge of 31 ficlets in 31 different fandoms for 31 thematic prompts. Last year's list and some thoughts here in case you are so inclined. I didn't actually finish the challenge until just before NY but I was also moving house last year so allowances are made.

This year I smashed it, ficlet per day, like a boss. I also decided that to make it extra fun for myself and pick 31 different fandoms again but not reuse any of the ones from last year. Because of my personality. On one hand, I'm like chronically multifandom so it's not that much of a stretch. On the other, I had used all of the big, easy fandoms last year already. So this year it was a lot of smaller ones, and this also really showed in the hit and kudos count. In fact, for a long time one of the ficlets had 0 hits and 0 kudos on AO3 and I was actually so gleeful about that, not seen it happen before at all :D Almost disappointed that it now has 2 whopping hits (still no kudos though, let's see how long that streak lasts, no one go find it and kudos on it just because, this is an experiment!).

In the end I also ended up writing in 13.5 totally new fandoms to me. These are noted in the list with 🆕

Last year I was hugely amused that I lost a good handful when I posted Delayed Reaction that includes underage incest (thoughts, no graphic actions). So this year I kept a more systematic eye on the subscription numbers by checking them a few times between posting each fic. I am fully aware that this is a very imperfect science because people can subscribe or unsubscribe for any variety reasons and fics. However, the fact that I was posting a ficlet per day meant that those who do subscribe were getting a daily email about this and they were almost inevitably about a fic in a fandom they didn't care about and unlikely one they subscribed for in the first place. Anyway, this too is noted in the list below too with ⬆️for subscriber gained and ⬇️ for subscriber lost.

Overall, this year most of the fics didn't actually end up particularly spooky or scary or supernatural or even sad, but often had more mundane or literal interpretations. Some were melancholy but I think only a handful would probably count and thematically appropriate... So, let's see, other notable things...

Spooktober

Yesterday I put up my Halloween decorations, today I wore a Halloween themed top and earrings to uni. I am excited because my cosy spooky season is here! Consider this your Heads Up (or maybe that should be Heads Off?) that October will see daily spammage from me in the form of Spooktober ficlets and seasonal spooky music.

In case you are wondering, I am indeed doing what I planned: 31 different fandoms, that will also be different from the fandoms I used last year, and 31 prompts that will also be all different from last year's. Haha. Uh... RIP me I guess.

I'm also pre-emptively amused to see how many AO3 subscribers I will a) lose because I'm posting so much and in fandoms that almost certainly are not why people followed me in the first place, and b) gain because people erroneously think I'll now be posting a lot more in the fandom that's just cropped up for this. Thinking of keeping a tally for my own entertainment.

Not the Friday Five questions, just... things to be cheerful about

1. I got podficced again!

Unintended (Stray Kids, Han Jisung/Lee Minho) - A gorgeously emotional recording by pieces0fstars who has a real knack for bringing out every choked up gut punching feeling in a story.

Ensnared (Wheel of Time, Moghedien/Lanfear) - A tiny masterpiece with sound effects by pezzax_podfics ! And the kind of underlying threat one would expect from a narration from Moghedien's pov.

2. Also fanart! vampireshmu did a perfectly creepy jagged sketch based on my Waycest ficlet Sharpest Lives, check it out here: Sharp

3. Writing has been happening, though I am still very behind on the getyourwordsout goal and probably will continue to be tbh. But still. I have finished a fic (Stray Kids, Chan/Felix) and it's out for beta, one is veeeery close to being finished (Stray Kids, Seungmin/Jeongin), I have also tossed a shared fic (Stray Kids, Chan/Minho) back to dreamersdare, while she is currectly working hard at finishing off another shared fic (Stray Kids, Chan/Changbin).

4. In RL news, my Bucharest conference trip in September is all booked! Now I, apparently, need to write the paper. Rude.

5. This weekend I have no plans beyond coffee and writing. Wish me luck!

Wow Kat, what's that sound? Well, glad you asked. It's the sound of me SMASHING through my 75k getyourwordsout goal! BOOM! We're currently >78k and there's still a day to go.

Much of the words came from a) co-writing done with dreamersdare and b) because I churned over 24k for Spooktober fics/ficlets, even if some of that churning happened after Christmas lol. Posting most of them back-to-back was a really interesting experience actually and I have some reflections.

Finally, I wanted to flail about being podficced!!

The lovely pezzax_podfics podficced under his wing (TXT, Choi Soobin/Choi Yeonjun) and turned a tiny ficlet into a full-blown audio drama with music and sound effects and it is so, so extremely cool I absolutely lost mine when listening. Also, please appreciate the cover art! (akdkjsj wings!)

The most awesome pieces0fstars podficced Volcano (Stray Kids, Han Jisung/Lee Minho) and holy shit the emotional impact the recording packs... Look, I obviously had a lot of emotions about the concepts which I wrote immediately after the song dropped. But the thing is, I wrote the fic so I knew what was in the fucker and yet, YET, I was absolutely choked up, clutching my heart, because the performance got that exact frayed, desperate edge I tried to convey in words and... Yeah, please listen.

Okay, listen up! Halloween month is legit my favourite time of the year and I am going to Try Very Hard not to let living amidst moving boxes (tenancy signed, move definitely happening but not until like 10th of Nov, more on the house and stuff in another post) and being tight on money this month (rent and current place + deposit for new place + moving costs = bye bye savings) ruin it for me. Not even the fact that my throat hurst, I unexpectedly had to work today to cover for a sick colleague and am exhausted is going to ruin it. Nuh-uh, I refuse.

Autumn! Pumpkins! Candles! Black cats! (always of course) Witchery! Wearing my many Halloween themed clothes! Aaaannnd... Maybe doing little something, something like writing... So pushkin666, dreamersdare and I have been thinking (dangerous) and are going to try what DD has dubbed 'Spooktober Drabblefest 2023: 31 drabbles in 31 fandoms in 31 days'.

Rules are... Well, fuck that, do whatever you like basically, or nothing at all. There are a lot of various Halloween themed prompt lists out there, I know DD has found one that she's using and pushkin666 is maybe working from another one. Me? I'm going to... what's the phrase? As yes, 'wing it'. Will they be drabbles? Who knows, might do a poem. What is a fandom? Whatever I feel like, which means original fic may crop up. Am I going to use prompts? Maybe the prompts will use me!

I am going to wing it like a vampire turning into a flock of bats, wear my black velvet cape (possibly to work i don't fucking care) and also post spooky musics at abandon.

Right, I've just woken up from a 3h nap that I don't regret. It does mean that my higher brain activity is not quite engaged so instead an actual post, let's celebrate the fact that I now have 400 fanworks up on AO3 with a 'fic meme'. And by that I mean...

Option 1. Pick a random number between 1 and 400 (1 being the latest fanwork posted, 400 being the first) and ask me any question about this fanwork.
