There’s an odd, jarring rhythm to the sound, full of sorrow and pain and loneliness that crescendos into a wail so high and sharp it seems to pierce his skull. Kris’ hands fly up to his ears, until he’s clutching his whole head between his arms, teeth gritted together, strange colours dancing across his vision.

- A bit of a non-day today. Haven't left the bed because today was 'wrokd from bed' kind of day. Also neighbours had their grandkids visiting, I can't mark shit essays when children run around

- I have written all the things. No really, a lot. Expect a two-week span of ficlets soon. (thanks pushkin666)
- I can work from home all week
- I went for 1h walk yesterday, got pleasantly sweaty and tired and found brambles (I really want to go back with a bucket to pick them once they ripen more)

This showed up on the flist (thanks milly_gal) and tickled me greatly, especially as I'd just watched Thork: The Wraiths Attack Dark World on Monday. Loki was fun, as was Erik, and I still want to take Darcy to bed (and not for sleeping). Everything else was boring. Also, Odin is a dick. Anyway, this made me lol. Also, Mark Ruffalo should get into my pants asap.




Then this also showed on the flist (thanks spikedluv) which was most fortuitous as I'd just written 2k Adam/Kris fic. Anyway, holy crap that Wicked Games cover gives me the chills

American Idol

(This Is) Not a Statement - Adam/Kris. This fic is to blame for how late this final rec post is. I swear I only meant to skim it quickly for rec-writing purposes but instead I got completely sucked into reading again from start to finish for what I think is at least the fourth time. This is a long, slow falling in love story where the relationship is so organic that like the characters you're not sure exactly where that shift from friends playing to something more actually happens. Bonus points for the beautiful, subtle d/s dynamic that is simply there as a normal part of the everyday relationship. Highly recced.



Bandom

I've Got Your Number One Bullet Right Here, Baby - Patrick/Pete. Ah, oldie but goodie. The pre-show ritual of watching porn kind of messes with Patrick's head... Delicious and hot first-time bunk sex ensues. Patrick/Pete is my ultimate bandom otp and this fic gives me such happy fluffies.

You make me feel so --  - Ryan/Spencer. Post-break up fix-it fic, a sub-genre I have particular fondness for. Spencer is getting anonymous gifts. Except there's only one person who would know what to send... Layered and hot.



Lewis

each to each - Hathaway/Lewis. On the surface this is an 'undercover as a couple for a case' fic. Scratch beyond that and there is an incredible blend of realism and lyricism that just draws you into the moment and holds you there. There is such shocking, aching sense of intimacy to this story that it took my breath away.

Moments In Time - Hathaway/Lewis. A lovely selection of snippets with accompanying music, that perfectly capture some key moments in Robbie's life. Great atmosphere and sense of time, the song selection is perfect.

No Less Human - Hathaway/Lewis. James is taken with a handsome subject and Lewis finds himself rather annoyed at that... Jealousy and a most satisfying resolution.

Semi-Skimmed - Hathaway^Lewis. This is a lovely fic of James pushing through all of Robbie's walls, with a lot of great little details (the moment of realisation in Tesco in particular). Gorgeous read that felt very true to the characters.

The Hermit Crab - Hathaway/Lewis. Newly established relationship fic where Robbie finds it a little difficult to adjust to being in a relationship with another man, and having other people know it. This is a lovely fic that explores the generation gap between the two characters that would surely manifest in ways like these.



Sherlock

A Cure For Boredom - John/Sherlock, John/many many others. Once you've been in fandom for a while, you'll find yourself skipping the sex scenes for the simple reason that so many of them become... boring, repetitive, not actually adding anything to the story. So to find a fic that is essentially one sex scene after another, and almost 77k long, and yet doesn't once lose my interest once, is pretty amazing. Sherlock and John become regulars at a sex club where John has a lot of sex (with some awesome and fully fleshed - pun not intended - original characters, male and female) while Sherlock mostly... watches. Very, very hot, and a very, very engrossing read.



Star Trek (Reboot)

Schoolboys - Chekov/Sulu, Chekov/Kirk, Chekov/McCoy, Sulu/Kirk, Kirk/McCoy. Ugh, schoolboy and teacher role play porn, written for st_xi_kink_meme (so scroll down a bit to the get to the relevant comments). Oh Christ almighty, this is one of the filthiest, hottest pieces of porn I've read in a long time. I highly recommend that not only do you read this, but that you reserve a cold drink and/or some private time for when you do...

Save Tonight - Adam/Kris, AU. Kris is a detective, Adam is a FBI-agent, they work together on an undercover operation that almost ends in tragedy. Oh my, this has lot of my favourite things including a genuinely tense 'oh god how will he get out of this?' situation. Bonus points for the GPS tracker location...

Starstruck - Adam/Kris, AU. This is amazing and deliciously long. Adam is a rock diva, Kris is his personal assistant. Told half in the present where Adam has disappeared and Kris is called back (after he resigned) to find him, and half as flashbacks charting their relationship, this is both hysterically funny and a wonderful lovestory. Look up rom-com in your fandom dictionary, and there's a link there to this fic. Go read now.



Harry Potter (yes, so I saw the film and now I basically want to read/re-read ALL the Draco/Harry in the world. Also umpteen fics about Neville kicking ass. Feel free to drop me recs of your own)

Cerulean Blue - Draco/Harry (also includes a sort-of-but-not-really Draco/Harry/Snape scene). I'm usually pretty iffy about amnesia fics, but this one managed to draw me in. Draco (now a Potions Master at Hogwarts) has a bit of an accident in the lab and loses the last four years of his life. It's up to Harry and Snape's portrait to sort him out... The magic in this was fascinating as was the trip through Draco's psyche.

Master Work - Draco/Harry. Draco is determined to repay Harry for saving his life and so he pledges to 'protect and serve' him for ten months. At which point my whole face split into a giant shit-eating grin, because hello there my favourite kinks all wrapped in a sexy little package of power dynamics and dependence and sacrifice and mutual dislike morphing into something quite else. Happy sigh of contentment.

On a Clear Day - Draco/Harry. Draco works for the War Orphans Trust. Harry won't attend their annual Charity Gala. Steps must be taken. This was just delightful in every way; slow relationship development, plenty of UST, great OCs and boys helping each other to deal with their issues. Also includes one of the best drunken almost-sex scenes ever (no really, it was beautiful and left me aching, you'll see. But it was okay because the actual sex scene made everything all better. Guh.)



Hawaii Five-0

Ending one minute at a time - Danny/Steve. Boys are kidnapped and Steve is forced to go to some extremes to protect his partner. Guys, there's cagefighting! What more do you need? Okay, well, there's also an awesome h/c element and a realistic look at violence and effects of it.

Instinct - Danny/Steve. Danny has a thing about tattoos. So does Steve. Funny that. Guh.

Sympathy for the werewolf - Danny/Steve, AU. Werewolf!fic but with a twist. I wanted a little more exploration of the government conspiracy plot but all in all this was an extremely entertaining read and interesting take on the myth. 

you in the sea - Danny/Steve. There's a sharp shooter killing people in downtown Honolulu and it seems he's doing it for no other reason than to get Steve's attention. Interesting case fic and the getting together at the end has a warm feel of inevitability.



Torchwood

Fading - Owen/Tosh. This is one of my favourite het pairings and while the canon broke my heart, this fic healed it, at least temporarily. This is beautiful and bittersweet, and Tosh here is exactly as she is in my head; brave and self-contained.

American Idol

A Sure Thing - Adam/Kris, hooker!AU. You had me at hooker!AU. I will read all hooker!AUs happily, greedily, and with slurping noises. Um. Anyway. Kris is high class prostitute! There is angst and misunderstandings and also feeeeeeeeeeeeeelings. *rolls around in the fic* This is most, most awesome.

i'm game if you are - Adam/Kris, AU. oh uhm nngghh? It's like 5,000 words of sex. Or, well, foreplay and then sex. Kris thinks he's bad at it, Adam tries to convince him otherwise.

Inconvenient Crush or, How Kris Allen Tried to Get Over his Roommate and Failed Like Geraldo at Capone's Vault - Adam/Kris, College AU. You had me at College AU. I will read all... .... yeah, okay, you know how this goes. Oh but look, they're room mates and there are love notes. MORE OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS. Anyway, this fic? Adorable. Too damn short.



Glee

Made for Sunny Days - Mercedes/Sam. Loved the sultry summer feel of this and Mercedes so happy and knowing. Left me with a huge smile on my face.



Hawaii Five-0

All My Guards Away - Danny/Steve. A wonderful, heart-wrenching post 1.18 story that deals with the fallout of Danny's brother in a way that hurts in all the right places. I love what the writer does with Rachel and Matt and Danny's whole family (the one from Jersey and the one he's found himself in Hawaii) and despite the grief and tragedy, there's a tangible feel of warmth and human connection to this fic.

Aloha Aku No, Aloha Mai No - Danny/Steve. Okay, so the Steve characterisation here is taken to the deliberate extreme (Steve + emotions = panic attack) but it is hilarious. Danny is sending some mixed signals. With a flower. And the hibiscus is totally a metaphor for their big gay love, okay.

Hears All Things - Danny/Steve. Jealous!Steve. Danny has a new lady friend and Steve is less that thrilled about it. But it's okay, things get sorted out in the end...

The Vertical Challenge  - Danny/Steve. Five times Danny's height (or, erm, lack of it) was an issue... This is long and satisfying (pun... totally intended) and all kinds of awesome; great banter and delicious, delicious ust.



Psych

A Partner Thing  - Carlton/Juliet. Yes, actually, I am all over this het ship. surprised? Probably not as much as I am. Anyway, this fic manages to be unexpectedly hot (like 'fuck, I need a cigarette now' hot, and it's been eons I've read het fic I've found genuinely sexy) even though there is no actual sex. Also, very, very interesting power dynamics. Highly recced.



Stargate Atlantis

Rock, Paper (No Scissors) - McKay/Sheppard. Ah epistolary fic, my favourite. John and Rodney exchange notes in prison and things get discussed that usually don't. This is just utterly delightful; I do some enjoy reading about John's issues.

Anyway, I have ~thoughts~ about American Idol, which is a tragedy in its own, but especially since apparently no one else in the entire LJ is watching it. *pouts*

Yesterday I managed tiny bit of thesis work, finished all of student feedback and had moth2fic and her husband over for tea and chat and removing of water tanks and piping. Respectively.

Today I'm therefore going to drink this giant pot of vanilla coffee I made, listen to love songs on Radio 2, maybe write something, and read all the Hot Fuzz fic in the world (no, really, I saw the movie for the first time yesterday and it was adorable and hilarious).

I also have an insane amount of recs for you guys. I'm not even going to give them all at once, but here are some fics I've enjoyed lately and hope you do too. Organised by fandom.


American Idol

through the storm we reach the shore Kris/Adam (with Kris/Katy, Kris/OMC, Adam/OMC). I loved all the original characters here; Kris' and Adam's other partners are realistic and likeable, and the central relationship develops organically, over time. Long and hugely enjoyable.

here is the deepest secret nobody knows Kris/Adam. Future fic. Adam follows Kris on a tour. Nnnguh, hits so many of my happy buttons, mainly the one for slow, organic relationship development. The UST builds and builds and just... Also features Adam being a possessive bastard, which, yeah. Guh.



Bandom

It's All Over My Face Frank/Mikey. Set in 2003 when the boys were legit roommates (I want to say flatmates, but that's because I live in England). Des' is brilliant at writing boys as such boys omg; dialogue, humour, description - all spot on and hilarious. The sex scene is realistic and sneaks in some d/s vibes that make me happy in my pants.

Can Never Wrong This Right Frank/Gerard. In 1949 Professor Way, an arheologist, and Frank, his pining research assistant set out to South America to find the legendary Blood Stone. And end up accidentally soul-bonded. As you do. Cracky premise that turns into something quite intense and even dark at times. Lovely little period touches as well.

By the Scent of the Moon Patrick/Mikey, Bob/Gerard. AU. Interesting world-building with rules of the werewolf society subtly interwoven into the story. Sold me on a pairing I haven't much considered before. Also hot (mmm hierarchical power structures and rules of behaviour, my kinks scratched).

a scent and a sound Frank/Mikey. More werewolf fic, this time with werewolves as a discriminated minority - a premise that adds an interesting and a more serious dimension to otherwise simple (but well done) 'getting together' story. Good use of sensory description. Imperfect and realistic characters.

I'm Gonna Tell It Like a John Locke Story Ryan/Spencer. I'm usually leery of amnesia fics, but the premise works really well here as an opportunity to start again and to remember the good things anew.

Amateur Cartography Brendon/Spencer. Hands down one the best, most realistic bdsm fics I've read. The relationship development here is outstanding; the uncertainty and confusion, getting things wrong, getting them right, the mix of physical and mental, the emotions you can't keep separate no matter how much you try. The wax-play scene in particular is just... yeah, yeah, just like that. Fuck. Go read it now.



Being Human

Sheep in Wolf's Clothing George/Mitchell. This fandom is lamentably small so finding good long fic is like winning a lottery. It's the apocalypse and the only person who can stop it is... George? There is some really fascinating mythology building here and my only gripe is that I would have wanted to see MOAR of it and would happily read tens of thousands of words about the Old Ones and history of vampirism. Great read.



The Fast and the Furious

The Kind That Talk The Loudest Brian/Dom. Guh. I mean, guhhhhhhhhh. Smouldering. But also really good character piece about meaning of family.



Hawaii Five-0 (2010)

The Turning of the Tide Danny/Steve. There's a short prequel to this here, but I'm mainly reccing this part alone. There is something very sensual about this fic. Boys playing in the water.

Hoahanau Chin/Kono. In which 'cousin' is a term of enderment and closeness, rather than indicating actual blood ties. Okay, so, confession: I would read so much het incest fic about these two because... I mean, have you seen them? Sex on a stick. Or, on a surf board and motorcycle. But whatever. This is your chance to indulge in the pairing without feeling skeeved by the incest-factor if that's what usually bothers you. Wonderful Kono pov. Maps the relationship from childhood to present day. Excellent context setting in terms of the the culture and community Chin and Kono are part of. Hot het sex.

I Have a History of Taking Off My Shirt Danny/Steve. Nobody likes a cock-tease and there's no such thing as harmless flirting. Angsty and hot like burning.

hoʻomanawanui i ka ʻono Danny/Steve. Mortal danger leaves to revelations! Ngl, I love it when Steve angsts. Also, Danny's rants are hilarious and I can hear the character voices.

High, High, Very High Danny/Steve. Reads like an episode (the plot is similarly cracky) with additional slash, of course. Steve does not adjust well to being put on compulsory convalescent leave. He does, however, manage babysitting Grace with only a few grey hairs to Danny. Funny, long, entertaining.

Spoken in a Whisper Danny/Steve. This author does kink so very, very well, and never ignores the psychological side of things. One of the best spanking fics I've read. Raw and realistic.

Lonely People Do Stupid Things Danny/Steve. Christmas fluff with 'meeting the parents' and first-time goodness thrown in. Happy-making in the best of ways.

bright shining as the sun Danny/Steve. My 'competency/unexpected skill kink' meets my 'drawing/writing on skin' kink with delightful results. Oh god, I want Danny's past turn out to be canon so bad. Guh.

Mr Rosso Goes to Hawaii Danny/Steve. Undercover as gay! Man, I love that trope. And this fic. Just an incredibly entertaining read.

put your mind at ease Danny/Steve. So, DADT got repelled. Doesn't mean that the change is easy to deal with. Fuck, this one hurt like a healing wound. Outstanding.



Lewis

Four Days in October Lewis/Hathaway. Link goes to the last part which has previous chapters linked. Interesting case fic with good original characters. Feels like an episode with added bonus of Robbie and Jim finally getting their act together.



Merlin

Pairing Pendragon/Merlin Arthur/Merlin. AU. In which "Arthur is a BNF and Merlin is his prized beta reader". Oh. My. God. IT'S FUNNY 'COS IT'S TRUE, OKAY! This should be required reading to everyone in any fandom. Delicious Mete served with a generous helping of hilarity. Go laugh at your(our)selves.



NCIS

Cold Hands, Warm Heart Tim/Tony. Hypothermia fic! The author is like 95% responsible for me getting into this show and this pairing and her writing keeps me coming back. This is a hugely enjoyable handling of the old trope and lovely first time fic.

More Like Magic Tim/Tony. Undercover as gay! One of my all time favourite fic clichés, done great justice here. Deliciously angsty at times. Comfort reading, at least for me.



Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

Scott Pilgrim vs. the Unspoken History Wallace/Scott, Ramona/Scott. (Yes, this is another film I've only just seen - I'm chronically behind on movie-based fandoms, so sue me). Character voices are spot-on. A break-up fic that still left me smiling.



Sherlock

Bound John/Sherlock. This is a sequel to Crossed, which was the 'cropping with switching fic' I recced previously. This fic... it's hot yeah, but more than that I find it interesting. You don't see switching much in the bdsm fics, and while I'm not personally keen on it mid-scene, I find the interplay between John and Sherlock here absolutely fascinating. I just want to point at this fic and go 'yes, this, just so'.

Ridiculous John/Sherlock. AU where John is an army retrieval expert and Sherlock gets kidnapped... Hello, my competency kink is very happy to read about John being a BAMF and Sherlock not exactly conforming to the 'damsel in distress' stereotype either. Left me grinning delightedly.

Decency John/Sherlock. Humiliation kink done really well. Filthy, filthy porn.


 

Happy Sunday, have some stuff.

-    My cats are playing tag, it’s hilarious. It’s fairly warm today so I have the backdoor open. Basically, they’re running back and forth between the lounge and the back yard, Tricks chasing Perdie one way and Perdie chasing Tricks back the other way. For two such small cats they make enough noise that is sounds like a herd of wildebeest trampling all over my flat

-    That, however, is nothing compared to the continuous screeching from the woman next door. She has three children, who are far less loud than their mother. I swear to god this woman has no normal volume of voice, all she does is shout all the time. I just want to tape her mouth shut.

-    Dear Internet. Last night pushkin666 and I wrote over 4,000 words of angsty porn about Strictly Come Dancing judges (Craig/Bruno). I am so very, very sorry. Except for how it's kind of smoking hot. Still, am frightened about posting it eventually, because, well... Let’s just say that my recent experiences in writing RPS in small non-existing fandoms have left me very protective of my fourth wall...

-    My Torchwood help_pakistan fic is making progress and the end is almost in sight. This is mostly thanks to margaret_r and zeitheist and their invaluable help. Ladies, I will email the finished product to you within a few days.

-    Shout out to my fabulous Finngirls! Yesterday’s post brought me a coaster! With some very, very disturbing and rude messages about Chad Michael Murray, fuck holes and Hardycorn (...which I imagine is some sort of unholy morphosis of Tom Hardy and an unicorn – frightening!). I’m not quite sure what it was all about, but I liked it! Thank you so much, you have no idea how much that brightened my day!

-    It was a good day for post yesterday as I also got my Adam Lambert tickets! \o/
