All Things Counter - Bucky/Steve, daemon AU. I really liked the splintered, dissociated Bucky pov in this, the exploration of what happens if your soul is outside of you and hurt as his is. Angsty but with a hopeful ending, everyone's daemons are well thought out too.


Battle Creek

Dress the Part - Russ/Milt. Russ in a rentboy outfit. Enough said.


Glee

Worthless/Priceless - Blaine/Kurt, slave AU. This is one of those fics that is almost too wallowy, cliched and sappy at times but I have a terrible weakness for the 'abused slave rescued' trope and I admit to reading all 94k of this and enjoying it thoroughly. Like candy. Slave fic candy. Om nom nom.


Grimm

read the map like poetry - Roddy/Barry(/OMC), background Nick/Monroe. This is a really great roadtrip fic of Roddy and Barry partying their way across the country, driving home from college. The OMC is fantastic, and this young adult look at the Wesen world seems realistic, while the whole thing is still infused with a sort of dream-like quality that pulls you along. Highly recced.

The Life and Times of Nick Burckhardt, Prefect - Nick/Monroe, Hogwarts AU. Who doesn't love a good Hogwarts AU? Nick and Monroe are prefects patrolling together and there's teenage angst, plus some great melding of both canons.


The Hobbit

Devils of Truth - Fili/Kili, not related and slave AU. Fili is given as gift to the crown prince of Erebor. Turns out slaves are treated quite differently in the Kingdom Under the Mountain than Fili is used to. More of the slave fic candy! 53k of glorious feels and angst and cliche. Also, the description of Fili in his party finery was most excellent!


Person of Interest

Dangerous If Unbound - Finch/Reese, bdsm AU. By now you know how I feel about bdsm AUs and about this pairing. So when I found out that Astolat had written 23k glorious words of it I almost stroked out from sheer excitement. I've read this fic maybe about 4 or 5 times now and it's earned a permanent place in my go to list of fics for when I just want something comforting that I know is brilliant. This not only hits my love of power dynamics, but it also caters directly for my extreme fondness of the 'the unassuming seeming person is secretly a BAMF' trope. Boy does it. Highly, so very highly recced.

Furnace - Finch/Reese. Takes place after season 3, Finch and Reese are travelling Europe; regrouping, recruiting, and readjusting their relationship. The description of the different cities is lovely, and there's an unhurried feel to this despite the underlying urgency.

Inscribed - Finch/Reese. Harold has a tattoo. John approves. Kat approves too. A lot.

Intimacy - Finch/Reese. A number means that two of them have to take their 'pretend couple' act all the way. Turns out no one really minds. Everything is so casual until it isn't but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Funny and hot and sweet and wonderful.

remember, there are eagles - Finch/Reese, daemon AU. The summary for this is 'Five things Harold’s daemon isn’t, and one she is' and the fic itself is perfect and clever, somehow both fragile and strong like Harold and John. As an aside, one of the things Harold's daemon is NOT... I really wish she was, because that is a perfect concept and someone should write it asap. You'll know what I mean when you get to that point and go '...oh' like I did :D

Touchstone - Finch/Reese. Something is up with Harold. Luckily for everyone John gets to the bottom of it (with a little help) and history doesn't repeat itself. Harold's behaviour in entirely believable considering his past, and the embedding of literary quotes works wel and adds depth to the story.

Walking in the Dark - Finch/Reese. John and Harold are used to walking in the dark, but they no longer have to do it alone. A ball game, a dinner, and a realisation. This is utterly lovely, with great characterisation, and deals with Harold's disability and its very practical implications when it comes to sex with care and realism.


Star Trek (AOS)

Caught in the Crossfire - Kirk/McCoy. Extreme h/c with emphasis on the hurt, including medical procedures done in the rough, without anaesthesia. I'm not particularly squeamish but parts of this made me cringe. Also, there's a lot of introspection and mastication of feelings. You may wonder why I'm reccing this after all that but the case itself is pretty intriguing and I really liked the original character in this, and well, a little wallow in feels is like cotton candy. Still delicious! If you like h/c, you should enjoy this.

Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance - Kirk/McCoy. This is an adorable Academy era Christmas fic where Kirk's Advent Calendar consists of different ways of wooing Bones. The graphics add to the story and the ending as adorable.

Submit, Fight, Fail, Fall (or why you can't fight the blood that's in you) - Kirk/McCoy, aob AU. This is a delicious wallow of feels and cliches. Jim is an abused omega who has sworn off alphas. Bones shows him that not all alphas are bastards. Power dynamics, possessiveness, friends with benefits thing morphing into something real, lots of hot sex. Oh, and it's 59k, so fix yourself a cuppa and enjoy.


X-Men: First Class

Celestial Navigation - Charles/Erik. Wonderfully descriptive fic that adds depth to the recruitment tour, immersing Erik and Charles and the reader in 1960s New York. Brilliant glimpse of Orore as a child too,

Homecoming - Charles/Erik. They may not be talking but when Charles is in trouble, Erik runs to the rescue without hesitation. And nothing makes compromise look as tempting as mortal peril. Lovely fic.

I Wanna Give, I'm Completely Positive - Charles/Erik, modern & bdsm AU. Short but adorable fic about Erik who has been saving himself for his dom.

write this number down (you can call it anytime) - Charles/Erik. Erik acquires twins and finds parenthood somewhat challenging. Luckily there's Uncle Charles... This is a great story both as a 'kid fic' and how it treats the very adult, very fragile relationship between Charles and Erik.

British Actor/Comedian (QI) RPF

Deconstruction - Alan Davies/Stephen Fry. Yes, yes you did read that right. Okay, so their QI personas are very slashable and this is a short, rather clever, classy and subtle exploration of the potential relationship.


Glee

The Model Minority (Stereotype A) - Mike/Tina. This is an excellent look at Mike and life with and beyond stereotypes. Written back before the show gave anything approaching backstory or characterisation to Mikey, this fic did it better thant what we eventually got.



Harry Potter

Souvenirs and Lost Luggage - pre-Petunia/OFC, Dudley/Piers. One of the wonderful things about fanfic is how it can flesh out the minor characters canon ignores or caricatures. This is exactly what this story does to Petunia Dursley, or Petunia Evans as she is once more known after leaving Vernon. A wonderful and painfully human story about owning up to your mistakes and faults, and finding the strenght and courage to change.
 

Hawaii Five-0

How to Ruin Your Life in One Easy Step - Danny/Steve. Jealousy + rimming = winning combination. Guh.

In These Arms - Danny/Steve. A sweet future fic in which drunken Grace tells Steve some home truths.

Play a Strong Hand - Danny/Steve, Jenna/Kono. This is a coda for the season 1 finale. Steve is in hiding while his team works to clear his name. Intriguing plot with great interactions between everyone.

Tooth and Clawl - Danny/Steve, AU. In which the whole team are supernatural creatures of some kind, keeping Hawaii's criminal vampire gangs under control. The detail to the science/mythos behind the various supernatural mutations is well thought out. I really enjoyed the world the author has created, though some warning about werewolf sex whilst actually in wolf form would have been appreciated...



How I Met Your Mother

A Series of Completely Unrelated Events - Barney/Ted. I wish there was more fic for this pairing, I really do. Both character voices are spot on and everything feels like it almost could happen in the show...


Sherlock

The Theory Of Narrative Causality - John/Sherlock, AU. Oh man, I do love fandom meta fics. In this Sherlock and John are BNFs in, erm, the Sherlock Holmes fandom. This is hilarious and oh so very true to reality of LJ fandoms.


Sherlock Holmes (2009 Movie)

Things on Fire, Things That Fall - Holmes/Watson. A rather classic style and thorougly enjoyable case-fic with hurt-comfort and reveal of feelings.

I'm having a mental health weekend, which has mostly consisted mostly of sweet f.a. trialia and I had a 80s movie night on Friday and watched Lost Boys, The Breakfast Club and Batteries Not Included. 'twas awesome and now I want to write filthy wrong Michael/Sam fic for Lost Boys and some d/s flavoured Andy/John for The Breakfast Club. I'm not saying I will, just that I want to.

I have made 40 icons for the evilsam_spn Summer of Evil challenge and am also trying to finish a drabble series for the same thing. I have not yet seen the new Supernatural, but the reactions from the flist suggest I should not watch it when already emo?

To cheer myself up I watched the Season 6 gag reel again.

The Lonely Island and Michael Bolton singing about Jack Sparrow also helps with that. *giggles*

Doctor Who: Just... o_____________O *flaps hands*

Glee: Hmmm... a bit meh about the first ep in general but Blaine's red trousers + that song confirm that Darren Criss = happy Kat.

What else... I made berry tart! It was nom even if I do say so myself.

This made me laugh: Stay Down - Dreamwidth/Livejournal, Dreamwidth/Livejournal/InsanejournalLivejournal ficlet - pure genius, pure truth.

Speaking of fic recs, I have accumulated quite a few again. Which means another Kat Recs All The Fics week is looming in the future. Not this week though, but possibly after that.


Finally, interspecies friendship makes everything better: otter & dog playing together and another similar pair (mute this vid, there is no need for the music) - yeah, currently lost in youtube vids about otters being awesome, I feel this is a valid way to spend my Sunday.

Today I 1) sent off another thesis chapter to the supervisors, 2) almost had a panic attack in Tesco (this is what happens when I don't leave the flat except for the corner shop and nearby park for a week), and 3) ogled at some firemen (upstairs' cooker caught fire. no really.)

So you know, WHATEVER, MY LIFE. Have some more Glee recs. I'M NOT SORRY. But in case that's not your thing, there's something for the Trekkies too.


Glee

a different sort of forever - Blaine/Kurt, vampire!AU. I would have read more of this very happily, but even this rather stimulating make-out scene is enough to get the blood-pumping. ...yes, yes I did just make that awful pun. Just go read it.

just under skin - Blaine/Kurt. You know that kilt Kurt wore to the prom? Turns out Blaine really, really liked it. That's not the only thing he likes, either... This is a sex fic where fact that sex is still something new to the boys comes through loud and clear.

Like Invisible Strings - Brittany/Santana. Brittany's inner monologue is brilliant and completely in character. Sweet and, well, bittersweet.

Say it With Flowcharts - Blaine/Kurt, Blaine & Rachel friendship. Amazing characterisation of everyone. Rachel and Blaine's friendship is perfect and makes absolute sense. I want to see it in the show so very badly. Great alternative getting together plot for Kurt and Blaine too. This is a wonderful read that you should treat yourself to immediately.

The Smallest Bones - Blaine/Kurt. This is future fic but not by much, set the summer before the boys are about to start junior college. This is lovely character study of Blaine with glimpses to his background. He and Kurt are solid and the future waiting for them full of promise. Lovely, slow read that simmers with the heat of summer.

Willing To Take The Risk - Blaine/Kurt, college!AU. In which Blaine is five years older than Kurt and they don't meet until College where Kurt ends up taking a class taught by one Dr. Anderson. It's a little (a lot!) wrong how much I enjoy this cliché, but... yeah. I would have wanted a longer courtship dance, but this is still a highly enjoyable read.



Star Trek XI: Reboot

All-Time Favorite - Kirk/McCoy. Bones is making new friends. Jim is not jealous. Just a little... thrown, that's all. I loved how McCoy's reaction makes a lot of sense; if you can't have what you want, then you try to move on. Lovely read.

Dear Daddy Series (don't believe the 'one-shot' in the header info, just keep on clicking to the next part) - Kirk/McCoy, Joanna McCoy/OMC eventually (they are young kids but still totally mfeo, you'll see). Firstly: this is long. Secondly: it is also completely un-put-down-able. Reserve at least a couple of days. Sorted? Okay, so this is also the most amazing thing ever. Told mostly in series of emails (or whatever the Starfleet equivalent is) between McCoy and his daughter, though pretty soon other correspondents enter the narrative and things like personal log entries also start to appear. You know I love epistolary fic, so that alone would have put this on my rec list. Add to that a rather sweet Kirk/McCoy romance and we're in business. But! It doesn't end there. Because I clicked for the Kirk/McCoy but it was the utterly compelling characterisation and friendship between Joanna and Savas that made my heart ache and melt and flip around and all sort of other physically impossible things. Kids, het pairing... and yet. And yet. Looks like the author is picking the series back up, fastforwarding seven years and I live in fervent hope we'll get to see the outcome of the Jo/Savas epicness. <3_______<3

Grand Pas de Deux - Chekov/Sulu, AU. Hikaru's daughter takes ballet lessons, Pavel is the teacher. This is a heart-warming romance that doesn't even pretend to be anything else. Author does a good job fleshing out all the characters and giving them interesting backgrounds and issues to deal with . A wonderful read.

twelve - Kirk/McCoy, college!AU. It's Christmas time and Bones is wooing Jim. Jim takes a while to catch on to that fact. Ugh, adorable and grin-inducing.

Things that have kept me sane and entertained and happy lately:

- This delicious James McAvoy picspam

- Interesting musings about fame and real person fandom

- Doing two mixes for the Mixtape Exchange (one for Psych, one for gen theme of 'slow slide to madness/evil' *g*). Also really looking forward to receiving mixes for all three of my prompts.

- Dwarves from The Hobbit

- Reading fic in various fandoms. I think next week is possibly Kat Recs All The Fics: Round 2, so you might want to mentally prepare yourselves for another week of fic recs. Hardship I'm sure.

- Trying to write some fic. Have over 2,000 words of ridic George/Mitchell (Being Human UK) rentboy!fic done that I'm trying to finish... Also, I just found four handwritten pages of Gus/Shawn (Psych) rentboy!fic on a notebook. Apparently I'm working on a theme. And that theme is male prostitution.

- Rewatching all of Glee. I don't even care, it's my happy place right now and I still have ALL THE FEELINGS about Kurt. And Blaine/Kurt. Also Brittany/Santa. My favourite scene of season 2 is the Kurt&Blaine duet at the Regionals, especially because of Puck's/Mark Salling's face in the audience when he's watching it, how unashamedly emotinal he is. I have a theory that it is actually more Mark Sallig being a GIANT SAP WITH HEART-EYES than any acting in character.

- Speaking of Glee... A confession: I'm having a massive celeb crush on Darren Criss at the moment. I can't help it, he's just so geekyandscruffyandhotandhewritessongsohgodiwanttobakehimcookiesandthentiehimtomybedand... Um. Anyway. I may or may not have folder titled in 'Darren Criss Sex Riot' on my laptop, and these may or may not be just some of the photos from there.

Alone With You (the shared madness) - Bandom, Patrick/Pete. Oh goddddddddd. Remember back in the day when Patrick/Pete was the pairing in the bandom? Remember all the angsty fic where Pere was a mess and Patrick was... the anchor and the leaking liferaft or maybe nothing but a phantom on Pete's fucked-up psyche? Yeah, you remember that? Well, this is all that in a 3-minute video. Set to a song by Brand New (I know for a fact that this is a selling point to at least one of you). What the fuck are you still doing here and not watching this vid?


Strange Days - Being Human, ensemble (canon pairings). I know I ramble about song choices a lot, but these are my recs so I can. This is song I used in a Wincest fanmix eons ago, and a long-time favourite of mine and so perfect for this. Oh show. This is a gorgeous, bittersweet vid with a wonderful use of the supporting characters. Definite tissue-warning for this.


Distance - Glee, Finn/Kurt (could be friendship). Okay, if anyone was going to sell this pairing to me it would be Fabella. The song is one I always associate with one of my favourite Ianto/Jack vids, but damn it's poignant here too. The hazy overlay (idk, there's probably a technical vidder term for it) lends this perfect dreamy quality. Use of colour (and lack of it), the subtle effects... but beyond that, the emotional impact is immense. This vid makes the point the show laboured at, and makes it far better.


White Blank Page (d/l link amidst the comments, ask the vidder) - Glee, Brittany/Santana. Okay so I thought the show itself twisted the knife in my heart with the storyline of these two. But that was like a pin prick compared to the this. Jesus Christ. If you do not choke up from watching you have no soul and I don't think we can hang out any longer. The bleached colours, the overlaid clips, the clear storytelling, the editing that brings to focus the frankly excellent acting... I don't care if you hate Glee, this is beautiful, go watch it now.


Cupid's Chokehold - Hawaii Five-0, Danny/Steve. Man, I love it when fandoms collide. Here Steve and Danny's meet-cute to the infectious tune of that Gym Class Heroes song you can't get out of your head for five hours after listening (mmm Travie and Patrick). Anyway. This is Nel's vid so quality is guaranteed. This is sweet and light-hearted, perfect antidote for all the angst. (Smile moar, Danny! *gazes*)


Harbors of Our Own - Hawaii Five-0, Danny/Steve. Ah, oldie but goodie (...does a fandom this new even have 'oldies' yet?) Anyway, possibly everyone has seen this already but since I haven't recced it yet... Basically, this is a vid about how inconvenient love can be. It won't ask for permission or schedules or whether or not you'd prefer your working hours explosion free or your pizza without fruit. Such is love. Danny is learning it the hard way. Lovely vid with strong storytelling.


Trouble - Hawaii Five-0, Danny/Steve. . :DDD Pink is one the very few celebrity women I wouldn't mind a little personal playtime with. Um, that wasn't relevant to the vid per se, was it? Anyway. Steve is trouble. Danny pretends to mind. Awesome action vid, uncomplicated fun. Everyone needs some of that.


Ego - Merlin, Arthur/Merlin. Aaaaahahahahaaaahahahaha. Merlin is Beyoncé. Of course he is. It makes perfect sense. Anyway, so okay, here's the thing, Merlin has a big sword cock ego. And he can back it up. And then some. A vid full of phallic symbolism (just like the show!) and a dramatic slash dragon (also, like the show!). You owe yourself to watch this.


Animal (youtube, no d/l link that I could find) - Sherlock, John/Sherlock. Okay, I admit it: I clicked on this vid because I had some hazy hope it was made to NIN's Closer (...seriously, where is the Sherlock vid to that? I need it in my life.) It wasn't. But it was a sill an awesome little lovestory of a vid. There's something oddly romantic and kind of... soft? about this vid that appeals to me. The colouring is gorgeous.


Sherlock: The Musical - Sherlock, some implied John/Sherlock and Moriarty/Sherlock scenes. Okay, so this does what it says in the tin; a medley of songs and clips. This is hilarious, often in a slightly wrong way. Ahahaha, the Mycroft part is maybe my favourite. No, John's theme song. No, everything about Moriarty (Lady Gaga! perfect!). No, maybe... You get the idea.


Sherlock Audio Fun - Sherlock, some implied John/Sherloc, Moriarty/Sherlock, Anderson/Sherlock (no, really) and Sherlock/Mrs. Hudson (ahaha, genius) scenes. So this is done in the same vein as above (medley of songs) but also uses a variety of dialogue clips from other sources. Also moar musicals (Sherlock = Belle, trufax). And Glee (Sherlock does not want to go to rehab!) This vid actually makes me kind of buy both Anderson/Sherlock and Moriarty/Sherlock and even find them, sort of, um hot? My favourite is probably still John asking Sherlock not to turn him on...


Sherlock'd In His Pants - Sherlock, John/Sherlock. So you know the Supernatural vid to this song, right? Right?! Good, so you know what to expect. Ahahaha, what wonders clever editing can do. Many, many hilarious lyric-clip combos, will possibly ruin (improve?) Sherlock's latex gloves for you forever but totally worth it. *dries tears of mirth*


I Wanna Do Bad Things With You (youtube, no d/l link that I could find) - Sherlock, John/Sherlock. Nghgkldsguhhh. Um yeah, it is indeed set to the John Everett song made famous by True Blood and damn but it fits well. I loved the darker edge of this and how predatory Sherlock is portrayed as. Good use of dialogue, which can be a hit and miss, but works well here.


Brokeback Baker Street (youtube, no d/l link that I could find) - Sherlock, John/Sherlock. Ahahaha, so I am a sucker for these reimaginings. By the same vidder as above, this is Sherlock done like the Brokeback Mountain trailer and I am unashamedly emotional over it. C'mon, who wouldn't watch this movie?


Lucky Ones (vidder's LJ is flocked and I've no idea if there is a d/l link somewhere) - Star Wars Prequels (with a couple clips from the Original Trilogy), Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon. Fine, fine, so I've been on Obi/Qui fic binge over the last two weeks, what of it? It's the power difference thing. Think about it, the whole Jedi order is only one sideways step away from institutionalised bdsm what with all the Masters and training bonds and suggestive weaponry, what was George Lucas thinking?. I cannot resist that shit even when the ratio of purple prose, soul bonds, and release of sexual energy into the ~Living Force~ is alarmingly high. I also cannot resist watching and rewatching this vid and maybe having some serious heartache because of the EPIC AND TRAGIC LOVE. This is not fandom I've seen many decent vids for so to find one is awesome. Sepia-coloured angst that manages to convey the larger than life feel of the Star Wars universe. Well drawn parallels between the Obi/Qui and Anakin/Padme storylines as well.


Runs in the Family - Stargate Atlantis, Gen ensemble, John pov. I would like to nominate this vid for the 'ingenious song choice' award. The frantic, brassy, bitter anger of the Amanda Palmer song is perfect for John and this fucked-up family of his. Love the Teyla sequence and overall use of the Wraith in the first half, and then, gah, it gets even more twisted and... yeah. Awesome.

So hey, I should be packing, but instead I'm eating a cherry yoghurt and listening to Planet Rock. Procrastination ftw!

Things:

- Got all 26 project proposal feedbacks written and emailed off in time.

- Went to see the new Harry Potter movie with trialia. It was epic and my they all grew up pretty. That's the extent of my intellectual commentary.

- Ex-Housemate-of-Awesome and her bf are coming to get Perdie and Tricks today. Undoubtedly there will be kitty trauma as not only is it a new house but B and bf have a new kitten of their own now so... I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm fretting over how Perdie and Tricks are going to cope; they're my baaaaaaaabies.

- Strictly Come Dancing finale tonight!!! Only one person on my flist shares my enthusiasm about this but yayyyyyyyyy!!!

- Am up to date with Glee now. I have feelings about it and they mostly revolve around wanting to adopt Kurt.

- Also finished Ugly Betty. The finale made me cry. Ngl, Betty and Daniel is my id-pairing and I ship it hard. Shut up and point me to some decent fic.

So I wake up deciding to definitely, maybe, sort of, have a proper sick day. Three hours later I've: washed the dishes, done some hand-washing, cleaned and changed cats' litter day, checked flist and left/answered comments, done a tiny little bit of thesis work and drank two mugs of coffee. Um. I should maybe also eat something? And like, find the cold meds? (For those of you interested, my voice is slowly returning, today I can actually make some sounds, though they are not particularly melodious).

Anyway, there was point to this post and it was RECS!

Here is another extremely mixed bag of recs of the 'I've read/watched these recently and enjoyed them' variety. I made some attempt to group them by fandom, but that's about it. Old and new stuff both.

Fics:

After the Nile (LJ link), Due South, Fraser/RayK. Every now and then I return to this fandom to wallow in the epic fic it produces. This takes the typical 'post-canon quest for Franklin's hand' premise, but makes it something almost lyrical, but in the funny, gritty, foul-mouthed pov of Ray Kowalski. Hugely enjoyable.

Flowers Can Grow Between the Cracks in the Sidewalk, The Fast and The Furious, Mia/Letty. Here's a fandom not especially known for its femmeslash, but this fic does an excellent job at correcting that in a very believable way. As usual, it's the women who are left to clean up and get on with things after the dust settles.

The History of Two Conversations (On Paper). Merlin, Arthur/Merlin. I have such a soft spot for epistolary fics; here Arthur and Merlin scribble notes on the margins of a spell book. Adorable.

Distraction and its sequel My Object All Sublime, Sherlock, John/Sherlock. Sherlock wears a collar, but it doesn't mean anything if he puts it on himself. Good thing John is there to take over that bit. Oh god, oh godddddddd. This, this is how you do collar and discipline kink. So, so hot, and not really about sex at all (except in the ways it sort of is). Highly recced.

The Death and Resurrection of the English Language, Sherlock, John/Sherlock. This is the way I like my Sherlock; twisted but so very aware of it; knowing what is Fine and what is Not Fine to want, but wanting it anyway, and working out the way to get it. And by 'it' he of course means John Watson. All of him. In every way possible. Forever. This is a fascinating trip inside Sherlock's head; dark and intense and full of absolutes. A raw, visceral, scorchingly hot fic. Can't recommend it enough.

The Shape I Found You In, Sherlock, John/Sherlock. Sherlock goes to Stockholm on a case. He and John exchanges texts and emails and talk about some things it's high time they talked about. This is the epistolary fic of my heart. Have read it a couple of times now and it makes me melt into a puddle of happy goo every single time. Highly recced.

In Which We Change, Star Trek Reboot, Kirk/McCoy, AU. An interesting take on werewolves. I was left wanting more, though I can also appreciate why the author finished where they did.

Unwritten, Star Trek Reboot, Kirk/McCoy, AU. Jim is YA author who also works for a publishing house. Leonard McCoy is a recluse author who is about to be rediscovered whether he likes it or not (spoiler: he doesn't). I came for the pairing, but stayed for the excellent meta on writing.

Office Hours, Star Trek Reboot RPS, Pine/Quinto. College AU. Zach is young adjunct professer. Chris is his student. Kat enjoys this fic probably way more than she should. Nnggaaaah, such a guilty pleasure fic but oh god, could not put it down. Hot. Hot hot hot.

hit it hard enough and even skin will tear, Bandom, Patrick/Pete. Nnngghhh. One of my all time d/s favourites for this pairing. Filthy in the best of ways.

Nightingale (And Not the Lark), Bandom, Patrick/Pete, background Brendon/Ryan and Jon/Spencer. CSI AU. There is something both very unnerving and yet beautiful about the way the author writes Pete and Patrick here. I was equal amounts fascinated and uncomfortable, and not sure whether to be relieved or disappointed when the fic didn't go to the dark place I was fully expecting it to end up in.

Overheard ("Less Talk, More Rock"), Bandom, Patrick/Pete, some others. Omg how have I not recced this before? This 35,000 words of dirty talk and it never gets boring, not once. Pete tells the world that Patrick has no game. Pete, it turns out, is very, very wrong. Unf unf unffffff.

Put Down Your Weapons, Bandom, Patrick/Pete. Patrick stops talking, because it's just easier like that. Lovely.

Chiaroscuro, Bandom, Patrick/Pete. Art school AU. Utterly delightful. Pete is an idiot but he gets the clue eventually. Loved the photography details and cameos of everyone.

Walk The Line, Bandom, Spencer/Ryan. Oh the the other BFF pairing of my heart. Boys feeling their way from 'experimenting with a friend' to 'boyfriends'. Slow and gorgeous.

this year’s love, Bandom, Spencer/Ryan. Mmmm ust. Plays beautifully for that 'suddenly seeing someone in a new light' cliche that I'm very fond of. Also, Spencer is devious.

planes mistaken for stars, Bandom, Brendon/Shane. Achy and realistic. Sometimes wanting to be with someone isn't enough.

Conversational Japanese, Plus Frogs, Torchwood, Jack/Ianto, but really this is about the friendship between Ianto and Tosh. Absolutely delightful, great character study of both Ianto and Tosh, funny and touching in equal measure.

The Assist, Torchwood, Rhys/Ianto/Gwen. Author summarises this as: "Three adorable Welsh people have sex." which is exactly what happens. And 'lo it is indeed adorable and hot.

Eight Crazy Pilots Serenity Didn't Keep, Multi (Firefly, Farscape, SGA, SG1, Star Wars, BSG). Title says it all. Funny, heartbreaking and absolutely brilliant.

Ten Song Drabbles, Supernatural, Bandom, Stargate Universe. I'm pretty sure the author didn't bother pimping these anywhere *glares at her*, which is a crying shame as they are all excellent and well worth checking out.

Rabbit Hearted Girl, Supernatural, the Harvelle women. Strength, sacrifice, love. All the meta you ever wanted about how the show treated Ellen and Jo, in a 4 minute video that will make you bawl your eyes out.

Ki- ki- kiss me, Supernatural, Castiel/Dean. I'm fairly neutral about this pairing, but I can really get behind by the 'teetering on violent' tension this vid creates. Hot.

This is the Picture, Whedonverse multi. Very, very clever vid. Works better if you're familiar with most of source material as the parallels are pulled forth and laid bare. Harrowing and human.

Alone, Merlin, Arthur/Merlin. Arthur has ~feelings~ that can only be expressed through an 80's power ballad. Genius. I laughed so hard I almost peed myself, for reals. Bonus points for the best use of the slash-dragon ever.

The Tower, Merlin, Morgana character study (from before she got a personality transplant). Gorgeous, the song choice is just perfect. I want this Morgana full of ambiguity, not the one the show insists on giving me.

Brickhouse, (Link goes to vidder's homepage as requested, go to vids, scroll down to miscellaneous fandoms), Multi-source, Gina Torres. A worthy tribute of a smoking hot lady. Unf.

Black Velvet, Glee, Kurt. Inspired song choice. Also, I love Kurt, I really do, and this brings all the sublime tragedy to the fore.

In other news, Matt Smith causes spontaneous pregnancy across the globe. I think the expression 'I ovulated so hard, the neighbour's dog went blind' just about covers it.

Not to be overdone, David Tennant and Benedict Cumberbatch rubbed their hips together for the fans' enjoyment. It looks like a bony sandwich that I'd be more than happy to cushion by being the filling. What? Like you weren't thinking the same thing!

Fics:

Thief, Transformers, Sam/Bumblebee.  Look, I know but hear me out. I... saw the movie for the first time the other night. And then, well, I kind of just wanted fic about the two hot marines in it and I went surfing for some recs, and while I didn't find fic about the marines, I found a whole lot of things like robot/robot non-con sex and I had to see how it was done ('beg me and I will make you overload!') It was like a car crash (um, occasionally quite literally) and I could not not click. And it was kind of hilarious and traumatizing and proved to me that robots really aren't my kink. But anyway, this is not that fic. And even though the pairing is human/robot, it's not explicit and you can totally choose to read it as friendship like I did. But this is a short, sad and very evocative piece that you can read it five minutes and it's a five minutes you should spend.

Have to Drive, NCIS, Tim/Tony. Still reading this one, but it's hitting my h/c kink hard and giving me slow relationship development. Mind the warnings.

I've only read two so far and the other one isn't posted yet so can't rec it now. But start with Run Through the Jungle, Bodie/Doyle. Engaging and thoroughly research case file, great original characters.

Cloud Nine, Stargate Atlantis, McKay/Sheppard. They work at the Weather Station. Hugely entertaining AU.

Be Yourself and Five Other Clichés, Glee, Kurt/Mike a.k.a. 'the other Asian'. Unexpectedly, this works and it works really well.

MODE: Final Issue, Ugly Betty, Betty/Daniel, various other pairings. Spoilery for the last season. I know, het right. Still, this is kind of my id pairing in a way and I totally ship it. Long, gives happy but not uncomplicated endings.

(If you haven't you better hit me up for a link because there is something missing in your life and you don't even know it). But here it's done for Merlin. And by god it's chilling. Can't wait for the new season though I doubt it'll manage to live up to this vid.
