American Idol
Crash Into Me - Adam/Kris, AUish. A long and thoroughly enjoyable fic wherein Adam and Kris end up magically bonded without any planning or preparation. And then it goes downhill from there. What I loved about this was how magic bond did not equal perfection, rainbows and puppies kind of love. The boys are put through an emotional wringer and the ending is painful yet necessary (and yes, it is a happy ending as well). Highly recced.
Bandom
Erased Song - Patrick/Pete, AU. This is set in a dystopian future, ruled by machines, and it is breathtakingly human. The world-building is fascinating with its own lingo and amazing detail. The whole of FOB is included, each character fleshed out (no pun intended) and believable. Cannot recommend it enough.
If This is Settling Down - Ryan/Spencer, Tennessee/Z. This is another post-split fic in which Spencer is not dealing well with losing his best friend. Even if he is an asshole. But it's okay because Spencer is an asshole too. Ugh, guys, this is the Ryan/Spencer fix-it fic I needed so very badly in my life even though I didn't know it. Complete with the 'confessing feelings through songs' cliché (oh my god this is a direct way to me heart). <3__________<3
I want to choke (u) series - Brendon/Spencer. The series so far has 8 parts and you should make sure you check the warnings on each of them. This is an excellent exploration of a bdsm relationship, mostly from the Dom's (Spencer's) pov which I always appreciate. The first fic is what really got to me; Spencer trying so hard to keep the physical and the emotional separate and to keep the sex out of the play. By the time Spencer sits down on the kitchen floor (you'll know the scene when you get to it) I was fucking bawling my eyes out. Deals with sadism with a depth of understanding that lifts this series far above 'just porn'. The final instalment is also fascinating and deals with something that I instinctively recognise as entirely plausible but haven't seen addressed in any fic ever (safewording out of vanilla scene).
Sugar Daddy (We're Goin' Down) - Patrick/Pete. Oh man, 'pretend boyfriends' is one of my faaaaaavourite clichés and this is a hilarious rendition of it. Patrick is 16 and his parents are being unreasonably strict, which just pisses him off because it's not like Patrick's even done anything to deserve it. Enter Pete, his fake new boyfriend, complete with tattoos, drinking and inappropriate behaviour - perfect way to get back at Patrick's parents. This left me with a giant grin on my face.
Years Unfold - Ryan/Spencer. Baby!Panic. Boys being adorable idiots. This is such a lovely, sweet story of unrequited love turning out to be requited in the end.
Social Network
Cryptography For Beginners - Eduardo/Mark. I absolutely loved the premise of this fic: Mark sends Eduardo an encrypted message, and the long process of deciphering it brings the two closer. The slow reveal of the message matches the pace of the healing relationship beautifully and the ending is completely satisfying. Lovely story.
Draw Me A Map - Eduardo/Mark. This story caters for my love of epistolary fic (postcards and letters and emails, oh my) while reminding us all about the distance you sometimes have to travel in order to get back to where you started from, and the chances you miss only to get another go. Gorgeous story.
For A Purpose - Eduardo/Mark. "Mark draws Eduardo long before he meets him." This is a lovely fic with an intriguing concept and some interesting meta about self-determination and how much it matters, in the end.
This One Left Them All Behind - Eduardo/Mark. Oh man, this is (deliberately) completely over the top dramatic Hollywood first kiss fic and it is also amazing in a way the very best completely over the top dramatic Hollywood kisses are. I may have been cheering out loud whilst reading. Do yourself a favour and read this now.
