Title: (don’t matter) if the road is long
Author:[personal profile] kat_lair
Fandom: The Hobbit (movies)
Pairing: Bilbo/Thorin implied
Tags: Drabble, Travel
Rating: G
Word count: 100

Summary: He’s walked this road before.

Author notes: Spring defiance from under the crushing forces of capitalism = a drabble a day in April. This one for [personal profile] verdande_mi who prompted 'the first line of a favourite poem'. The title is the first line of Leonard Cohen's A Thousand Kisses Deep. The song version of this is both abridged but also has a unique verse that I really love. Listen here.

(don’t matter) if the road is long on AO3

He’s walked this road before. And yet, Bilbo’s feet seem stuck to the threshold.

Behind him, Bag End is clean; valuables secured, perishables given away, furniture covered. He’ll send for his things, eventually. Maybe.

There’s nothing holding him here, not as strongly as the ties that pull him out of the door, toward the Lonely Mountain.

And yet, Bilbo is hesitating. Last time, everything was unknown; the journey, his companions. This time, he knows what and who is at the end of the road, just not if they are waiting the way he is.

It’s scarier.

He steps out anyway.
