Castling on AO3
In Mirkwood, the morning comes softly, even now, perhaps especially now, in the aftermath of war. The air grows grey, then milky white, sunlight filtering between the trees, delicate green with young leaves. The birds awake and Radagast wakes with them. The rustle of small animals, the hum of insects, fills what emptiness his depleting powers leave behind.
His appointed task is done, not by but despite him. And yet, his failure was not one of shadow but of life, myriad and wondrous and always returning. Not a dereliction of duty, but a new calling, one Radagast thinks Yavanna understands.
