Daffodils on AO3
The body lies in the flowerbed, surrounded by daffodils, the earth dark and rich between the spots of yellow and green. It looks like a painting, like something hanging in a museum.
“Selfishness, broken love.” Sherlock gestures at the flowers.
“Vitality, good news, self-esteem,” John counters. “Or nothing. Maybe the park was just convenient.”
“Dr Watson.” Sherlock arches an eyebrow at him. “Didn’t know you were an expert in flower meanings.”
John shrugs. “It’s interesting.”
Sherlock is watching him intently. “Yes,” he agrees. “You are.”
A statement like that when there’s a fresh murder scene at their feet… It’s something.
