Duncan watches the display of lean muscles visible under a white t-shirt that’s grown transparent and clingy with sweat before he asks,
“What are you doing?”
Jimmy almost drops his shovel, squinting against the afternoon sun as he turns around.
“Garden beds.” He wipes over his face, leaving a streak of earth behind. “For carrots. Maybe some cabbage.”
“The effort is…” Duncan’s eyes meander from Jimmy’s ratty jeans sitting low on his hips to his chest, over the swell of his biceps to the messy shock of hair. The slight leer in his voice is entirely justified. “Appreciated.”
Jimmy flushes.
