Happy Saturday Flist!

Yesterday's conference presentation went well and my paper garnered compliments and expressions of interest. Also, so did my glasses. IDEK, but it was nice. Better than all that was that my supervisor called my presentations slides "impressive" which made me preen like a freshly groomed labra-doodle.

To celebrate this, I'm going to spend the weekend doing other things (read: non-uni-related things). I have lots of stuff on my Epic To Do List that needs crossing off. But I also want to write some fic and mess about in fireworks today and pretend I know what to do with graphics (ahahaha, but um, I have fun?). I have Amaretto coffee (wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!) and plan on staying in bed until such time as Merlin starts and I have to drag ass to the lounge where the TV lives.

Speaking of Merlin, did you know that Colin and Bradley write songs together. Where is my band AU, that's all I want to know.

Fics:
Speech, Star Trek: Reboot, gen. Uhura and language, breath-takingly gorgeous.
Drowning Man (+ sequels), Sherlock, John/Sherlock. Eeeeeveryone's probably read it already, but in case you haven't you should get on that. Commended for keeping my attention even after it moved into established relationship (notoriously difficult to do with me), characterisation is A+ all around.
An Act of Charity, Sherlock, John/Sherlock. Another one that has been recced all over but justifiably, Sherlock has two lists. Dark and sharp is how I tend to like my Sherlock and this delivers.
Sauntering Vaguely Downwards, CWRPS, J2. Boys are geeks who end up and roomies at Dragon*Con. Pure mind candy, schmoopy as hell but very entertaining. Also: Jensen cos-playing Crowley from Good Omens. Why yes, just imagining it makes me happy in my pants.

A mock season six promo, Supernatural. Completely amazing fan-made season six promo, literally made me clutch my heart.

Supernatural and J2 fans should go see what a bunch of fangirls with Jared and Jensen paperdolls (no, really) and an excessive amount of alcohol can do. The results are nothing short of genius.

Summary: This thing moved from lust to something else, something infinitely worse, a long time ago, and now it's too late for Jared to back out and equally impossible to move forward, so he's stuck like this, aching and hollow and stupid in love.

Author notes: Ages ago I did a picspam creatively titled “Jensen Ackles – sex on legs” and pushkin666 made me write some comment-fic based on the photo which you can find under the cut. Several months later my brain decided that it would be a good idea to finish it. I’m relatively sure pushkin666 mind-whammied me somehow. Beta-duty by the irreplaceable virtualinsomnia who deserves some sort of shrine for all her help. This is the first time I’ve attempted J2 fic or any type of RPS for that matter, so all feedback, including concrit, is very welcomed.

 

I… I’m not entirely sure whether I should hang my head in shame or cautiously deploy the victory arms.

Um.

I sort of, entirely without planning to, wrote 3000 words of RPS, Jared/Jensen schmoopy porn to be exact. The file is appropriately named “omg why brain why” until I come up with a title. The fic is with virtualinsomnia for beta now, so there’s still time to run.

While pushkin666 laughs herself sick and possibly does some sort of obscene victory dance, I’ll be over here, praying for my eternal soul.

That’s right folks, the right answer is: A Supernatural Fan Meet-Up with the lovely gals from finnchesters!!

I am quite ridiculously excited about this butbutbut… There will be squeeing! And like some amazing games and entertainment organised by oikku and myself! And then we’ll have dinner at an American style diner, thus honouring the Winchester dietary code! Andandand, check out the hilarious name tags razorxrosary made us because she is awesome and I whined begged blackmailed asked!

Will be back on Sunday night, with Tall Tales (ha!) about the event, so expect lots of fangirl flailing and incomprehensible squeeage.

Second, third, fourth, etc. viewings did not improve the situation. Anyway, there’s a reason fans of Angel called it That Dead Gay Show, and this is it. *flails* There’s like symbolism in this here: trains! fire hydrants! geysers! paddles! Wait… that last one is less symbolic and more “‘m gonna smack your ass bitch”, isn’t it? Anyway. Watch the video!!

Rambling reason why you should watch this vid: Okay, so One Week by the Barenaked Ladies is probably one of the most overused songs in fanvids. I don’t care. And neither should you. The song is infectious and perfect for House and Wilson. Despite my fascination with the dysfunctional, sharp, broken edges of their friendship/relationship, there is this mischievous, boyish, prank-playing side to them that is absolutely charming. I’m a big fan of the literal interpretation of lyrics in vids, and the clips chosen for this one are nothing sort of brilliant. This is one of my guaranteed feel-good videos that never fails to put a smile on face.

Rambling reason why you should watch this vid: You know what I said about the overused songs. I’m not sure if Dandy Warhols realised how eagerly their song was seized upon by slashers of all varieties, but when something fits, it fits… The humour in this is almost meta (hence my classification), in that the it compares the similarities between the four shows in terms of characters, relationships and the driving forces behind them. Or maybe it’s just a cleverly compiled collection of matching clips and I’m reading too much into things *shrugs* Whether you want to compare and contrast the subtext in buddy-shows across the ages or just enjoy the pretty men acting silly, this is a video to leave you grinning.

Rambling reason why you should watch this vid: Uhm. So, like the video claims: Stargate is nothing like Star Wars. Except, you know, it kinda is… This is a truly inspired piece of first-grade Crack (with a capital C). I’m not sure how funny this is without knowledge of Stargate and Star Wars canons but armed as I am with both, the video had me in stitches. Jack as Han, Daniel as Luke, Sam as Leia, and poor Teal’c as Chewie… The clip choices are eerily appropriate and of course the song is cracky on its own right. Loads of fun.

Rambling reason why you should watch this vid: If you find yourself blinking at the “fandom”, you’re not alone. But in this day of media exposure, DVD extras, and red carpet humping (wait, that’s just Jared and Jensen, isn’t it. more’s the shame.) it’s entirely possibly to make a RPS fanvid. It is, however, extremely difficult to make a good RPS fanvid. Fabella spins her magic all over the available material and comes up with a ridiculously cute video about two actor boys in luuurve. You may want to schedule a dental check-up after seeing the vid, but oh it’s so worth it. Sweet and funny and unashamedly schmoopy.
