Inhale on AO3
The desert has a scent; dust and heat and secrets hiding in plain sight. It burrows inside like a rattlesnake, burns the throat, settles into the lungs with the weight of living.
It’s heavy stuff, not dying, out here. Kobra knows he would’ve buckled underneath it a long time ago, if not for the others.
A curl of smoke wraps around him from behind, arid and hot, like Poison’s hand, coming to rest on his hip.
His brother smells like he always has, like home. While everything changed, that never did. Kobra breathes him in, holds him there. Alive. Together.
