For the Wonder on AO3
“Thought I’d find you here.” A glass of whisky enters Jim’s line of sight.
He accepts it, sensing Bones settle next to him.
Outside, the universe spreads out in a blanket of stars and planets, infinite life, infinite possibility.
“I never tire of seeing this,” Jim says. Every time they stop, on the rare occasions nothing needs his decisions, or his sacrifice, he rewards himself with the stars.
“And I never tire of seeing you see this,” Bones murmurs.
“Because of my childish glee?”
Bones looks at him like Jim’s brighter than all the stars. “For the wonder you deserve.”
