Your German is good, for that level of rust! Mine is very mixed. I can (and do) read novels and chat ungrammatically to friends and relatives. When it comes to writing my grammar and spelling are all over the place and I can't listen to long speeches/lectures. I responded to howsmyenglish because we're friended anyway.

It's okay there because Google translate helped! I did have a go at writing it first and then just checked like basic verb form and tried to do the right conjugation... And then only checked the whole thing in the end, so some refresher learning happened. Passive understanding definitely better as I could get the gist of everyone's comments even if I didn't remember all the words.
