Greetings from Manchester. Work conference was very meh overall, though there were some interesting papers and mine went well, but... I've been to other conferences that have been much better and this one I just left feeling tired, rather than inspired and energised as you're supposed to. Well, I did manage to catch up my old PhD supervisors and friend K, so that was great. And now I'm staying for a couple of days of hanging out with [livejournal.com profile] trialia, [livejournal.com profile] moth2fic and [livejournal.com profile] fledge. Which is good.

This downtime has also given me chance to a) empty my work inbox and b) catch up with personal comments and emails. In the process of this I've also been browsing journals and tumblrs, following from one link to another, and collecting shiny things and links.

So many delicious smoothie recipes, I want to make them all!

A reverse city map randomly appeared over the sky in Finland

Look at this amazing paper art! Many more pretties here.

This is an accurate depiction that speaks of my life experience (artist's original post here)

Have you ever wondered where books come from? Omg so adorable, have a taster but check the link for the full thing!

Lol, lol! (original post here)

Here finally a description of WW1 that makes sense! Particularly the part about Russia's personality change. THIS EXPLAINS EVERYTHING. (Original post removed, but link goes to this tumblr)

Finally, I do not watch this show (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) but I'm considering it, after this extremely meaningful song about being Bi. :D:D:D

I personally decided to believe the book one ages ago, and nothing you can tell me will change my mind *giggles*

The 'WW1 as a bar fight' thing made me laugh so much! Also, completely accurate! Thanks for posting that, it may have made my night!

If they had taught history like this at school I may have actually understood ww1 the first time it was explained! The Russia personality change is the best explanation yet to wtf happened!

Awesome shininess! The Poe boy had me giggling and WW1 was worryingly accurate. Yay for downtime and getting things accomplished! Hope you've had a fabulous meet up with Traila, Moth and Fledge:D

I had to share! Yes, the Poet boy made me bark in laughter and the WW1 retelling was possible the first time I properly understood what happened...

It's bee lovely seeing everyone, thank you for the hugs you sent though we kept them virtual to avoid any potential cold bug infection :D

On that note, I do hope you didn't catch the dratted thing, Kat? Touch wood, I seem to be all but rid of it at last; I made it out to collect my morphine & do a little shopping yesterday, though I still can't get out of my chair for long without being very weak and I'm still a little bit croaky, so I think I'm going to skip choir tonight.

No, I didn't. Only a head ache over the weekend but that was probably more to do with the oppressive weather than anything else. I'm glad to hear you're feeling better enough to get out and about a bit *huggles*

I have no patience for tumbler as a platform because I like communicating with people but I can't deny that they are sharing lots of awesome pretties. Last night was fab, thank you for your lovely company as always. Just in the train home now :)

Glad to hear your paper went well - shame about the rest of the conference. What was the problem? The quality of the material being presented? Poor organisation? So frustrating when you've taken precious time out of a busy life to be there.

The Poe boy thing always makes me smile :-)

The conference was on sustainability research and I've been to others on similar themes that have been far more active; workshops and activities and time for discussion and reflection and... Idk, just inspirational. This one was just paper, another paper, third paper, endless papers! Some were interesting, but many were only so in theory and completely killed by presenters who weren't really great at presenting so it was a struggle to follow even stuff that was directly relevant to my stuff.
