On the road, hunting. The days bleeding into one other, the world closing down around them, until there’s nothing and no one else left. Sam’s slow acceptance that this is his life, Dean’s fear of losing him all over again.

They don’t talk about it but that doesn’t really change anything. It’s still there, unacknowledged and simmering, this thing that doesn’t even feel wrong anymore, just inevitable. They tried running, but the years in between have done nothing but strengthen and mature what was always there, and now things are finally coming to head.
