This seemed like fun.
Comment, and I will name you 3 interests from your list, and 3 userpics and you explain them in your own post asking the same of your flisters.
Snatched from
wiccanslyr, who asked about Green Wing, Jeeves and Wooster, tree!porn, and Wincest. And because she wanted to know about four interests, she only selected two userpics. My explanations can be found...
Green Wing - This is a British comedy show set in a hopital that ran for two seasons (and some specials). The humour was not for everyone's taste but I found it absolutely freaking hilarious. It was absurd, rude, routinely involved fantastical elements, and made me laugh until I almost peed myself every single episode. Official site here, with option to download eps via the 4oD feature. And because I can, here's the cast:

Jeeves and Wooster - This too was a TV-series; a superb adaptation of P.G. Wodehouse's Jeeves books. It's set in the high society of 1920s-30s and tells of misadventures of Bertie Wooster, a good hearted but none too bright young gentleman and Jeeves, his... "gentleman's gentleman", valet, best friend, confidante, one true love, and all around top notch man to have in one's service. What made the show was not only the way writers managed to transfer Wodehouse's distinct style and humour onto the screen, but the casting genius of Hugh Laurie as Bertie and his comedy partner Stephen Fry as Jeeves. The series is available on DVD (e.g. from Amazon) and I strongly, strongly recommend it to everyone. Here's a picture:

tree!porn - *facepalm* Uhm, this is a bit more difficult to explain... Well, last autumn BBC aired its new adaptation of Robin Hood, and I, and a whole lot of other crazy people, got very fannish about it. Somewhere, amidst the squeeful episode reviews and general perving, tree!porn was born, birthed originally by yours truly and
ginnystar, but soon seized by the rest of the fandom with a fervour of rabid ferrets. The series laughed in the face of historical accuracy, had ridiculous amounts of hoyay and slashy subtext, and routinely tied semi-naked men into trees. It was beautiful. tree!porn became a sort of a subgenre of the fandom, including fics and icons... Erm. To demonstrate, have some pics:
here's Robin, tied to a tree. He's not enjoying it at all. Nope.

Much is Robin'sboy best friend. They love each other a lot. We know because they said so. On the show. True story.

Of course, sometimes Robin likes it a bit more rough. For that there's nothing like Guy of Gisbourne. Together they share such interests as Marian, wrestling in the mud, tying each other up and hot pokers.

Here's Allan a'Dale. He's a pro when it comes to thieving, not being funny, and of course tree!porn

Allan mostly likes to do the last with Will Scarlett, who is here on the foreground, chained to... yes. A tree.

*shrugs* What can I say? It's canon.
Wincest - This is a Supernatural fandom term combining words Winchester (which is the surname of the two brothers who are the main characters) and incest (which is... well. I'm sure you know). Sam and Dean (see picture below for illustration) have Issues. Main among those issues are the fact that a demon killed their mother, their father raised them on the road almost completely removed from anything resembling 'normal', taught them to hunt evil, and told Dean to "always, always, look after your little brother". When he hit college age Sam buggered off to Stanford to become a lawyer and build white picket fences. Dad told him to "never come back" and Dean got some serious devided loyalties and abandonment issues. Then three years later Daddy disappeared, demon killed Sam's pretty girlfriend, and now the boys are back together on road again; saving people, hunting things. And having issues. Such as the fact that Sam may in fact be a demon-spawn and before dying Daddy told Dean he might have to kill his own brother.
So yes, Supernatural totally and utterly killed my incest-squick and made me embrace the forbidden love. I used to have shame, but then I got into fandom. Now I have porn.
But who cares, when they're so pretty (Sam on the left, Dean on the right)

Here are the two userpics
wiccanslyr was curious about. I'm really bad with graphics so as both of these were made by me, they're not anything special.
Because of my name, LJ username, and general love of the species, I had to have one cat icon. Anyone who has ever spen time around cats recognises the behaviour: they're all cute and fluffy, exposing their furry tummies for tickling and then BAM, the claws are out as soon as you touch them. Of course it doesn't happen always. If a cat actually lets you rub it's tummy, it's a sign that it trusts you not to hurt it. That's no small thing.
Uh. See above for the explanation on the whole tree!porn thing. Then of course I got to thinking that tree!porn was no new thing, but used widely in the past, most famously by D.H. Lawrence in Lady Chatterley's Lover. Anyway, I thought the icon was rather funny at the time, as well as geeky...

on 2007-04-25 05:20 pm (UTC)Alan and Boyce ended badly? Nooooooo! Wait, don't tell me, though. I don't want to know. But I'm glad to hear that M/C/G ended satisfyingly. That's good, at least.
Oh. Heh. I should learn to read memes properly. Well, can I just answer here? I will anyway. *G*
objectivity: one of my philosophies in life is asking questions. I think you should always question everything, especially your own opinions, and even though, heh, I don't always manage that myself, I try.
sinsemilia: (what is that still doing there? *G*) it's a french reggae/rap band which I liked a lot a few years back.
thelma bates: a character in a british tv show called Hex.
icons:
#1 A stock picture from getty.
#2 Heh. That was the result of this post where I was ranting about people's apparent nipple phobia. We (
#3 That's McBeck! ...Though now that you mention it, I suppose their faces are quite hard to recognise. Anyway, ol' school, yay.

on 2007-04-25 08:47 pm (UTC)But, but, but. I feel vaguely cheated by your icon explanations *pouts* Does #1 have any particular meaning/connotations to you. And of course #3 is McBeck (and very lovely one it is), but why that particular caption?

on 2007-04-26 08:46 am (UTC)Heh. Oops, sorry. Apparently I didn't really understand how you wanted them explained. Okay, here goes, then.
#1 I'd love to say that it has a Deep and Philosophical meaning but mostly? It's just pretty. ...ish. I made it for practise in Photoshop, trying out techniques I hadn't used before.
#3 Just in case you can't tell, the cap is from Rising, from the chair scene. I loved the scene because it demonstrated from the very beginning of the show the special relationship that Rodney and Carson have. Furthermore, when taken out of the contest, it's Rodney reaching out to Carson, which... yo! That's what I love about them, that's what in my heart makes them special: that feeling that they can depend on each other, both lean on each other and offer support, be raw and open without some macho shit getting in the way, something that - in my opinion - other pairings on the show don't have. The keywords for the icon come from PJ Harvey's One Line (listen for lyrics), a song that I've for some reason always associated with the pairing.
I hope that was more satisfying. *G*

on 2007-04-26 06:40 pm (UTC)And thank you for the music. I'm sort of haphazardly putting together a mcbeck mix loosely based on the angstiness of Sunday and listening to the song I have a feeling it may end up there.
Everything you said about the pairing I agree with. Carson and Rodney are calling to me again, and I'm just trying to get these Supernatural wips finished before retuning to them.
