Life on Mars Drabble: Chunky Truffle

pushkin666 had a birthday and I promised her some drabbles. However, by the time I met her on Wednesday for a quick glass of wine and some talk about BDSM wing-fic (just… don’t ask) two of the drabbles were unwritten and the third had turned into a 400 word ficlet.

Anyway, the point is that I have now finished the other two so… Happy Belated Birthday pushkin666!

In separate posts because they’re different fandoms and I’m a bit anal like that.

 

Life on Mars – implied Gene/Sam – PG

Chunky Truffle

The station is deserted at 8 am on Boxing Day. No matter how pathetic, Sam has decided that coming to work is preferable to putting a fist through the TV screen and drinking himself stupid.

Unfortunately there is nothing to do. Sam kicks his desk in frustration, an unexpected clanging sound prompting him to open the bottom drawer.

The tin sits on top of loose paperclips and old notebooks. Sam upends it onto the table, a riot of colour and sugar and goddamn Christmas cheer spilling out. There’s no card but he doesn’t need one to know who to thank.

Today is foul - dark and wet. Frost is forecast again for tonight and brighter weather tomorrow. Colin has lit the stove in the dining room and the house is lovely and warm after feeling like a fridge when we got back from London. Hope your flight was good. Have a lovely Christmas!
