The ravens are back. An unkindness of them sits on the wall of the Western Tower, facing toward the setting sun.
“They know what’s coming,” Master Lewis says. His face is half-hidden by the deep hood of the ceremonial cloak, but James doesn’t need to see his eyes to know there’s no regret in them.
The decision has been made. They’ve made it together, them and select others, united in their anger over the corruption, the injustice, and their resolve to change that.
Tomorrow, when the veil thins, when the Bells ring death and life in one long note, the council will fall. Or they will.
Either way, the ravens are here to bear witness.
