Oh yes, I'm carrying out the ye olde tradition of live blogging the Eurovision Song Contest (I wrote 'context' three times before I got it right, too used to using that word in academic context *g*) on my journal.

Here's the Lego Tribute to hold us over until the start.

And here's the awesome Finnish entry that didn't get through the semi-finals WHICH I'M STILL BITTER ABOUT. Europe not quite ready for this much individuality and punk attitude, eh? Pfft!

Lyrics translation here.

Have eaten! Have peed! Have cider at hand! TV is open! C'mon Eurovision!

And we're in Vienna! They have casted the philharmonic to do the theme tune. Also, fuck-a-doodle 27 countries, this will be a long one.

And there's Conchita! Gosh she is skinny.

Circles, circles, circles. Apparently it's a theme. Also, I always like the little country tourism postcards at the start and between the songs.

WHOO A MASSIVE DISCO BALL.

Classy opening sequence. From classical to disco :D Conchita in hot pink cat suit! So many sparkles, so many!

Singing presenters! Conchita is flying! Ahh, so cheesy! And of course there is a kiddie choir and erm... a rapper...  HEAL THE WORLD ETC.

This isn't the Olympics, why are you parading the countries in blah?

Lol yes, we'll have Australia... in Eurovision. It makes sense. For someone.

Also, awww the building bridges vid is super cute. And Graham gives a little shout out to the historic day in Ireland which today OVERWHELMINGLY vote to legalise gay marriage <3

Slovenia - A cute couple... singing in English. I really do prefer it when people sing in their own bloody language. Nevertheless, this si quite catchy. And the husband is cute on the piano although doesn't seem to do a lot of playing. The violin mime is... interesting.

It's not Eurovision without a wind machine.

France - obviously singing in French. Because to do otherwise would be the sign o the apocalypse. I'm digging the urban decay background... OKAY LOL DOVES OF PEACE. *rolls eyes* Still I quite like the song and she has a nice growl. Erm marching band. Hold on... IS THIS LIKE FRENCH VERSION OF BLACK PARADE?

Israel - AHA PRETTY BOYS!  ALSO WHAT HOW IS THIS KID 16? I feel a little bad for perving now but... not that bad. PERKY BOYBAND POP, JUMP MY PRETTIES, JUMP! Lol and here's the pelvic grinding too! Coupled with some traditional dance moves. I'm totally digging it! It's making me want to dance :D Which is not good because my back is sore as all fuck from today's massage.

Estonia - Aww youtube romance. BUT WHY WON'T YOU SING IN ESTONIAN? I like to listen to Estonian. Largely because it sounds super funny for a Finnish speaker. Ooooh dramatic! Shadows! Smouldering looks! Or constipation... Regardless, it seems like he's in for a spanking. She is not best pleased and looks up to putting him over her knee. Approved.

UK - Aww yeah, this is upbeat and cute! Although saying that I have seen better versions of this... Must be the nerves. I like the LED lights though.

Armenia - With a song titled 'face the shadow' and all those capes this looks like a particularly camp Death Eater meeting... I'M EXPECTING VOLDEMORT TO ARISE ANY MINUTE. But seriously look, now they are standing on map of the world, ready for the world domination I assume?

Ahahaha, boys in lederhosen snogging :D

Lithuania - The fuck is she wearing? ... that's seriously all I got. This is boring. Except for the kissing :D That was cute.

Serbia - Very popular I gather. She sure has the diva dress and hair down! Classic Eurovision. Will probably go far. Oh hello, LET'S GET THE PARTY STARTED! I like her :D

Norway - Tragic story of a child killer? idfk *blinks* The female singer's voice reminds me of someone...  Paloma Faith? Maybe it's just a hair colour association? Now they're just randomly wandering around the stage. Yawn.

Sweden - Aw look at the pretty boy! Oh very clever staging too. And he really is awfully pretty... *ogles* And the song is catchy too. I think we might onto a winner here. So much eyecandy!

Cyprus - Another pretty boy with cute geek glasses. And my what a big nose he has... Aww love ballad, sweet.

Australia - Erm, yeah. As a special guest. Because it's big there. Idk... But he is very pretty as well so there is that. Also the song is nicely catchy. *bobs along, cautiously*

FEEDING CATS BREAK  *hobbles*

Back for Belgium! - This is different. I really llike it! The singer has a serial killer crazy eyes going on... Which quite appealed :D

Austria - Well they do cart out the pretty this year. This is like a shampoo commercial, so many flowing locks! Their hair looks very soft. OH LOOK THE PIANO IS ON FIRE LOLLLLLLLLL. He has wisely left it. I'm pretty bored with the song though.

Greece - I know I've said this before but seriously, almost no one is singing in their own language any more which is really sad. I think it takes something essential away from an even that is supposed to be multi-national. Anyway, blah on the Greek song, forgotten it already.

Montenegro - Yes, thank you. I don't understand a word but that doesn't matter. Still enjoying it!

Germany - Nice bottom. You wiggle it girl! Also nice earring. The shoes look painful. Oh, erm, the song... Yeah, quite nice. Though I pretty much enjoyed her bum more :D

Poland - This is very pink! It's clearly very important to the singer and there's emphasis on her story but the song is super boring to me, sorry.

Latvia - 'Love Injected'... Really? REALLY? Did no one think twice about this song title? I am digging it though. Very Kate Bush. She's got good pipes on her too. Good, good, like it.

Romania - Quite nice. Now see this, going from own language to English and back works quite well.

Spain - She has a topless male dancer. And a red riding hood? And tendency to squeeze her bosoms? Iiiiiiinteresting shoes. They look good. and I would have surely killed myself by now trying to wear something like that. Song okay.

Hungary - War! What is it good for? Well, for a lot of touchy-feely anti-war ballads at the Eurovision apparently. It's not that I disagree with the sentiment but...

Georgia - Fuck me it's Vampirella Servalan! Heeeeeee! Now we're talking! Feathers! Goth make-up! Wind machine! She's not moving around a lot but let's face it, neither would I be in those boots.

Azerbaijan - Well this pretty boy has brought along a collared male slave?  His puppies. How sweet. I like this already. And... there's a wolf theme. Um. You just present there for your alpha... Seriously. This is like 80% of all werewolf fics I've read except with singing and dancing.

Russia - In a political move they have gone for a song about unconditional love? Aww, she's crying.

Albania - Erm I have nothing to say about this. By this point I just want my hot bath. Ow my back. Massage earlier today means I feel like I've been beaten up now.

Italy - Final song! Finishing with more pretty boys! *perks up a little* Lots of smouldering! And questionable facial hair choices... What is up with that fuzz middle guy? He looks like he put glue on his face and then rubbed it against a ragoon. Aww the one with the glasses is cute.

Right. Voting is open. Time for me to hobble to get pain killers.

Back to see some seriously lopsided hearts. Well, they'll have to do something to fill the 15 min voting time. Presumably Graham has gone to get more drinks.

C'mon let's get the votes now, I seriously want my bath now!

No, new Conchita songs first. Wowsa that's a lot sparkles in her shirt!

OMG THE GAYEST BABY ITALIAN.

oh ffs, POINTS NOW.  NO MORE CHATTING BLAH.

This always takes so looooooooong.

Lol on Finland's top votes. All the neighbours!

This is indeed turning out to be a bit of a three horse race as Graham put it... I was expecting Serbia to do better though.

Slap down to booers from the presenters.

Lots of technical difficulties apparently

I prefer both Italy and Sweden to the Russian song so...

This is tightest the result has been for a while! Much less political buddy voting than previous years.

OH YES, SWEDEN WINS! Awwww look at his little face! That boy is gonna get his cock sucked but good tonight :D

Right, that's it from me! Thanks for the fun Eurovision night! I'm off to have a bath.

Oh Eurovision how much do I love you. Come on Sweden, Israel and the other pretty boys. Yes I'm shallow. Also come on UK, for once we have a song that's decent. Also, has anybody else noted how alike the Israeli boy is to Gaz from Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps. It's his long lost brother.

I'll take your word on the pretty boys! And the Gaz lookalike (never watched that show). But yeah, UK song is catchy.

Not sure about the current entry. She looks constipated but there you go - maybe she's meant to be moody. UK next - whee :)

That first duet was almost everything I dislike about the '80's (ok, except for politics) - but the one with the lights dress? Where are you? We must discuss!

Yes on Georgia's song. Supreme Commander Servalan has finally turned up. Mind you I think the ravens might want their feathers back :)

Not particularly to us either ...

Glad to hear our Guy fitted the scene though. Suffice it to say he was probably the perfect choice as our representative;)

Loved your blow by blow description of proceedings:)

Australia did very well! And the song and singer were a good fit.

And hee, glad to have amused. Were you watching it?

Not live at 3.00am;) Did have a look at the replay on Sunday night and cackled over your running commentary at the same time. And yeah, we didn’t do too bad for a first time.

The best thing about the ESC this year was the guy doing the tv commentary for Germany. I swear, this guy hated EVERYONE. So much snark <3

Hee, was he getting drunker and drunker as the evening progressed? Because Graham Norton who did the UK commentary certainly sounded like that...

He started out hating everyone and he finished hating everyone. No drinking involved. His take on Albania: "This sounds more like being alive is a bad thing."

I loved Serbia and Israel this year. (You gotta give credit for including Tel Aviv and the ridiculous golden trainers).

Estonia wins this years award for the creepiest lyrics.

But I love it. :D

I was fond of Serbia too. And Latvia, really liked the Kate Bush thing she had going on. Eurovision is always so cracktastically fun.
