One of things to show my policing students next year. Made me hopeful despite the many problems that organisation continues to tackle with.

See also the video from the Scottish Gay Police Association.

It's great that they've done these. I'd seen the first one before, but not the Scottish one, so thanks for linking it - it's better than the other one!

The videos made me remember the old chant, "2, 4, 6, 8, is the copper really straight?" It is amazing what a difference time makes, if you think that it isn't so long ago that Clause 28 (and other) protests pretty much actively pitted the police against LGBT people. It must have been particularly awful for anyone who was both, then.

I agree that the Scottish one was better, mainly I think because it used fewer people and thus you got a better grip of their characters even in a short video such as this. I was hoping Steph Morgan would speak as one of the participants, not just the person introducing it, on the main vid.

Yeah, time is a double edged sword. It's fantastic that things have changed for the better but sometimes I think my students are in danger of becoming too complacent about this. Like 'it's all equal now, what's the problem?' (I see this attitude tenfold when it comes to gender issues) and many are shocked when I talk about Clause 28 or things like how recently it was that homosexual sex was still an offence etc.

Thanks for those, they are both lovely videos.

Unfortunately we don’t have the same level of acceptance here and active support for LGBT people within the Police, schools or other community services. Things are getting better gradually but we have a long way to go before catching up with the UK.

I was quite moved by the videos so had to share.

Yeah, UK is advanced in LGBT rights. I think many countries are the same (or worse) as Australia. As long as the direction is toward improvement, the pace will catch up.

The Scottish one was actually better I felt, but both definitely warmed my heart.

Just finished watching it! I think I preferred the English one. Two reasons. The Scottish one laid less emphasis on the police role in tackling homophobia. Also, and this has nothing to do with the topic, I found the musical accompaniment really intrusive and distracting, especially given the strong Scottish accents of some of the people speaking.Anyway, both were good and I hope you get to show them to your students - you're right about complacency re sexual orientation, race, gender, etc. etc. and it's good that teachers like you are dealing with it!
