Ugh but yeah, denial works for me, though I don't think RTD is keen to copy SG1 on this. After all, he's always said that one of the things they wanted to do with Torchwood was to bring that dose of realism: it's a dangerous job, people die. So in one way this was twistedly genius plot move. In another way... DIE IN THE FIRE, RTD, I NEED SOME HAPPY IN MY LIFE GAH.

I laughed. In my defence, it was only because I just do not cry in front of people. Ever. It was pretty much a toss up between burst out laughing or make a horrible shrieking noise to let off steam. I've now retired to my bedroom to cry, I feel like such an idiot. I swear, they'd better have some completely crap scene next week that reminds us all of Owen, where Ianto becomes a zombie. Granted, I'd probably roll my eyes and cancel my DVD order if that happened but I WANT MY IANTO BACK.

I don't usually consider mood spoilers to be spoilers, but the subject line combined with the crying rather strongly implies that someone dies in the episode, so in this case it was spoilery for me. I prefer going into an episode without knowing such things.

I've been watching it here in Oz on UKTV - late at night when the house is quiet, everyone else has gone to bed, and I can enjoy (recorded it). We are one day behind here so have not seen Day 4 yet. Have seen the spoilers though! Don't know if I can actually watch tonight ... don't think so.

The thing that annoys me is that they had finally got it right - great storyline, great characterisations, great production - such promise for the future. I actually like Gwen in this and finally Ianto's thoughts and feelings are explored. Plot wise it is probably a brilliant move but for the series I think it's an ending. Without the dynamic of Jack and Ianto and the way they played off against each other there is nothing to really keep the interest up. And that's sad.

I think you might unfortunately be right. Jack/Ianto interplay was one of the core things about the series and without Ianto Jack will become unpleasant in many ways I predict...

I agree that Jack without Ianto is going to bring out the worst in him. I wonder if RTD really appreciates just how much of a fanbase that pairing has. I've tried to psych myself up to watching Day 4 tonight but I don't think I've succeeded! I'm such a coward and I don't want to cry ....
