So lately my F-list has been up to a lot of wonderful fannish things, and it’s my privilege to spread the goodness. Once I started to compile this I realised that you people are so ridiculously prolific that I have to do this in two parts! omg how do you do that? *flails* So here's part 1 and I will pimp more in a few days time (seriously people, stop writing good fic that I must read!).
Please see the author’s notes in the originals posts for ratings and warnings.
moth2fic has been writing all sorts of amazing stuff as well as editing the super-duper
Gay Flashfiction online zine. Here’s two gems you should check out:
- Stargate SGX: The Worlds of Difference is best described as an original novel set in the Stargate: SG-1 universe. If like me, you have grown weary of the show’s increasingly America-centric outlook, SGX is the perfect antidote. The story is told mostly through the eyes of Adam, a young British computer-geek and history-buff, who ends up not only adjusting to a new country, but to a string of entirely new planets as he is recruited for the Stargate programme. Luckily he has plenty of friends (both familiar faces from the show and new characters) to help him along. Among them is Vlad, a handsome Russian helicopter test-pilot, who is keen to take Adam on an altogether different, and far more personal, journey of self-discovery… Full of adventure, romance, and aliens, SGX is a long and satisfying read.
- Coming out of the Cold is a Life on Mars fic with Sam/Gene pairing. Written by someone who’s "been there, done that, and has platform shoes in the attic somewhere to prove it” this is a story where the details of the time-period, locality and language are all guaranteed to be authentic. Highly entertaining. Plus it has a puppy, what could be better?
So you all know
ginnystar right? She’s got a sickening amount of talent for someone so young and you should all go admire her…
- Amazing Robin Hood icons, including several tree!porn ones (come one, tree!porn is never not funny!) and some uber-cute Robin Hood cartoon figures that will leave you awww’ing all over the place and may make you unexpectedly cuddle the person next to you.
Speaking of art…
tardisdoll promised me a graphic of my choice as a birthday present, and the greedy bitch that I am I asked for a cover for one of my fanfics (her choice). She then proceeded to make an absolutely gorgeous cover for my Robin Hood fic "if you are the rhyme and I the refrain" now added to the original post. Go admire her talent!
And because I am clearly blessed when it comes to amazing friends I received some more birthday pressies.
inkblot_fiend wrote me the schmoopies, fluffiest, cutest Robin Hood fic ever: Happy Birthday, Master (Robin/Much) left me in a gently quivering puddle of goo and is now officially my happy place.
I have to mention
entangled_now, a ridiculously talented and prolific writer (seriously, how does she do that?). She has some fantastic stories in Torchwood, Robin Hood and Primeval (yes, you read that right, trust me, they’re better than the show) fandoms and I urge to check out them all (all stories are meticulously tagged, list can be found on the sidebar of LJ). Here are some of my personal favourites:
- Storeroom 15 (Torchwood: Ianto/Owen). This is the fic that sold me to this pairing, which I now like better than… well pretty much any other pairing in TW fandom (heresy, I know). Ianto and Owen accidentally turn on an alien device which has some interesting effects. Funny and hot in equal measure with spot-on character voices.
- Night Visitors (Robin Hood: Allan/Will). Will isn’t quite as innocent as Allan thought he was. Except he kind of is. So so hot it almost killed me on the spot. Best read alone with a cold drink nearby.
- In Wine, Truth (Robin Hood: Much/Robin). In case you didn’t like, know me at all, I have a slight (okay, huge) kink for power-dynamics and this hits it like a hammer of god. There’s also a scene here that somehow manages to combine it with mentions of tree!porn and hip bones, and consequently makes my mouth go dry every damn time I read it.
- Remittal (Primeval: Nick/Stephen). Subtle and cute, lending the characters more depth than the show itself. Plus neck-touching!
Whew! *wipes brow* This should see you through the weekend. I'm going read more fic in preparation for the F-list Pimp -Part 2 (coming soon to a computer near you) and possibly bake a cake. mmmmmmmm..... cake.....
PS. Remember to leave feedback for the authors and artists if you enjoy their work!
PPS. Incidentally, does anyone know why there was a sudden influx of visitors to my LJ a few days ago? My nifty little map that usually logs 2-6 visitors per day suddenly claimed there were people from about twenty different places popping into my LJ, yet I didn’t get any new comments or anything… *is puzzled*
