It happens so slowly that Hansel can almost convince himself not to notice anything.
Almost.
But the signs are there. A witch who takes just a little longer to die than necessary. A greedy mayor who turns docile overnight. His arrows, finding their target with deadly accuracy even when Hansel knows he misfired.
Gretel’s smile, growing sharper, teeth glinting silver in the moonlight. Her fingers, questing over Hansel’s spine, ribs, stomach, spider soft and sweeter than all the candy in the world.
Hansel sees the signs. He understands what Gretel is becoming.
Doing nothing is not ignorance.
It’s a choice.
