Bored. Doing that AO3 meme to list ten fics with the highest hit count, which of course provides an opportunity for some self-indulgent waffling.

Crackle (Bandom, 717 words), Hits 2020 - First by a large margin, due to a popular pairing, a rec in a couple of places including someone's Tumblr, which bought a fair bit of traffic.

permit yourself anger and permit me mine (Robin Hood (BBC), 2901 words), Hits 1366 - That this is on a second place is entirely due to The Hobbit. [livejournal.com profile] ginnystar and I were baffled by a sudden influx of kudos on this (with that this is on the top place) when Robin Hood isn't exactly an active fandom any more, and then it clicked. Richard Brooding Oakenshield Armitage! It is so clear that The Hobbit led people to check out his back catalogue and then fic for that. Amused.

Five Things JD Doesn't Like About Dr. Cox (No he doesn't, no of course not, why would you say that?) (Scrubs, 1532 words), Hits 1360 - I've no idea except I think there is dearth of Scrubs fic out there?

Patrick Stump Emergency Procedure (capitals obligatory) (Bandom, 2185 words), Hits 1348 - Aww, this remains one of my personal favourites so I'm glad it's up here. Think it got recced in a couple of places which would explain the hit count.

Claim (Lewis (TV), 1991 words), Hits 1302 - Ahahaha, I think this is here by virtue of being the only, or at least the first, werewolf fic in the fandom. Pander to the fandom cliche :D

Cinderella, she seems so easy (Bandom, 9598 words), Hits 1254 - Ah, the cross-dressing waycest fic. It will forever follow me around and I'm okay with that. *strokes fic*

innocence for days (Being Human, 3700 words), Hits 1142 - Again, lack of fic for the pairing? This is a fic that I've gotten very little comments on in proportion to the hit count. It was fun to write and completely self-indulgent rent boy cliche wish fulfilment.

Golden (Merlin (BBC), 100 words), Hits 1092 - This drabble was nominated for an award. Also, Merlin is a screamer.

Check-up (Scrubs, 2936 words), Hits 1073 - My another long Scrubs fic here as well, bless.

Anchor (Merlin (BBC), 100 words), Hits 958 - And this drabble got the first place in the above-mentioned drabble awards.

~~~~
However, kind of more interesting is to look at the ten fics with the lowest hit count and why that might be...
and eat it too (Masterchef (TV) RPF) (4805 words), Hits 21 - Lol. BECAUSE NO ONE BUT [livejournal.com profile] pushkin666 (yeah, no, not even me, not really) UNDERSTANDS THE GLORY OF THIS PAIRING.
these rocks don't lose their shape (Telephone (Music Video)) (457 words), Hits 25 - The other fics in this 'verse have done much better in terms of hits than this for some reason.
swifter than a weaver's shuttle (Supernatural) (1168 words), Hits 35 - Angst and gen, if people checked the warnings (spoilery) they would be put off. I'd skip this fic too if I was looking for something to read.
Beginnings (Stargate Atlantis) (466 words), Hits 38 - Rare pairing is super rare
Bullseye (Supernatural) (100 words), Hits 47 - Gen drabble, not of interest to most peple
Pause (Bandom, Panic At The Disco) (273 words), Hits 50 - Ficlet with one of the less popular pairings.
Five Ways Radek and Elizabeth Got John Into Bed (Stargate Atlantis) (481 words), Hits 50 - Rare het threesome.
Assurance (Life on Mars (UK)) (100 words),  Hits 57 - Gen drabble
ZOOM (Life on Mars (UK)) (100 words), Hits 58 - Rare pairing drabble
ring the bells that still can ring (Supernatural) (833 words), Hits 60 - The most recent fic which judging by the hit count in a week won't stay long at the bottom ten.
That's really interesting and I shall scurry off to look at my own! As I tend to write in lesser known fandoms long after other people have left for the new shiny I have no idea what I shall find!
I've read most (not all) of your output and for what it's worth, Cinderella is the one that stays with me. But I think I read it on LJ, not AO3, which is another factor to take into consideration when looking at hits. Sometimes things get read on LJ and then you archive them on AO3 but the mass of fans have already read them and/or moved on.
I tend to check the stats on AO3 regularly because I find them very interesting. And yeah, majority of my fics have been uploaded to AO3 years after they were posted on LJ, like Cinderella. It's still an interesting indication of what kind of things and fandoms are popular, and how fashions change.
I've just looked through mine and will post some time over the weekend - intriguing!
Oh, this looks fun (although I suspect the results will be skewed by the dilution effect of things also being posted on LJ and the impact of later archiving than original posting). I may have to play this one as well :)
Heh yeah, I must admit to checking the AO3 stats fairly regularly as I find the whole thing fascinating. Yes, the dilution effect is definitely there since most of mine have been on LJ for years and years before AO3 was even a glimmer in fans' eyes.
