Steps to a headache:

1. Revamp a module that I have to teach but didn't design and don't like the learning outcomes that I'm stuck with

2. Go through the lecture slides from last year (like, ones done by a colleague)

3. Come across this sentence: "Not all psychopaths are sexual sadists although all sexual sadists are psychopaths"

4. Literally head-desk.

5. Lie there torn between tears and laughter

6. Remember that as a psychopath such an emotional response is not allowed

7. Dammit, failed again

8. Close work files

9. Leave office in search of something alcoholic.

10. Happy Friday?

Additional frustration: one of my students is doing an assignment on 'sexual homicide' (self-selected topic) and is not persuaded from it by me pointing out a) how rare that is and b) sexual sadism DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY ESCALATE TO MURDER OMG WHYYYYYYY.

...on the other hand, I had to explain to her what 'chapter outline' was, twice, so I foresee a lot of patience testing conversations.

Oh yeah, I can remove the sentence, the slide, the entire lecture... I'm bound by the learning outcomes, but can revamp the content. So yes, any talk of psychopathy and sexual sadism will be a little less... simplistic.

Heh, I am the missionary of 'world is not black and white'?

I think this is the colleague whom I actually quite like, just suspect that they've gone straight to some books on serial murder for their source. Problem is that those books were written my ex FBI agents, and, like in a lot of mainstream psychology/psychiatry, any deviation from 'normal' sexual desires or practices is treated as a pathology.

Well, clearly there's a world of difference between serial murder and consensual sex kinks - with a range in between that includes cases such as the one where the German cannibal claimed his victim consented, and the English legal system that insists it is impossible to consent to assault, hence the miles of stuff you have to sign when you have any medical procedures. And once upon a time, not so long ago, being gay was considered a pathology, etc. You certainly have your work cut out for you!!

Any deviation... so are nuns and monks and catholic priests all psychopaths?
