As always, these are of the 'I read and enjoyed' category, some truly brilliant, so more of the 'oh that was lovely' type.
Note also that this is a mixture of LJ and AO3 links.
John/Sherlock
As I Love You - John keeps finding mysterious notes. Adorable.
A Slowly Dawning Attraction - Does what it says in the tin: UST abounds, a lot of almost-kisses and gorgeous tension all leading to a spine-tingling hold-your-breath climax. Delicious.
Burning Up Through Your Veins - In the aftermath of The Great Game Sherlock must acknowledge and deal with feelings he doesn't really want to have. The language is somehow sparse yet beautiful, and there is a fragile stillness to the story, waiting for the inevitable crack.
Captured - Oh this hits my competency/hidden talent kink so very, very well. John turns out to be good at drawing, Sherlock becomes obsessed with being the ultimate subject.
Cheater and sequel Wanted - John is quite... protective of his status as Sherlock's friend, assistant and blogger and does not take it well when someone else encroaches on his territory. Oh happy shivers, possessive!John pleases me greatly.
Five Times Dr. John Watson Surprised Sherlock Holmes + Two Minor Occasions wherein Sherlock and John Deeply Disconcerted Mycroft - John Watson is a surprising man (with an exceptional gaydar) and Sherlock gets rather preoccupied with puzzling him out. Nice, slow build with a lovely nods to the book canon. Also, my brain gets the happy about John schooling Donovan on abnormal psychology.
If I Fell - "He finds it almost boring, how easy it is to manipulate the doms, how he can make them do what he wants without very much effort at all. Turns out John's not so easily manipulated as all the other men Sherlock's subbed for." jdfklsgdskjksdjjdskl. Seriously. Seriously, I almost swallowed my tongue several times whilst reading this. I mean the bit with John's tags. And Sherlock being a possessive sub (no surprise there). I reiterate: dskgljafwafskdlfsdkl.
Lay Me Down- This is a sequel to The Shape I Found You In. which I've recced before. Just as lovely as the first fic, though this time told in prose rather than texts or emails. Has that perfect giddy, just getting together honeymoon feeling, and the background tapestry as provided by Stockholm and a well-drawn original character, makes this all the better. Wonderful read.
My True Love Sent To Me - Ahahaha oh god, hilarious. John receives some interesting tokens of affection. Told entirely in text messages.
Planet Sherlock - Hee! John just wants to fuck someone. Surely, that's not too much to ask? Unfortunately, Sherlock turns out to be a giant flouncing cock-blocker. In which sex is like murder (and severed fingers in a locked room) and Harry is awesome. Delightful.
The Case Of The Stolen Flatmate - Pre-slash, but could be read as Gen if you prefer. 'One person gets kidnapped, the other goes crazy trying to find them' is one of my favourite clichés. Of course for Sherlock 'crazy' is a relative term. Well-constructed case fic with strong characterisation (both John's and Sherlock's actions at the end feel true), realistic violence, and subtle shift in the relationship.
The Pleasure-Dome Hotel - I do so enjoy BDSM world AUs, you know, where person's sexuality is defined on the submissive-dominant continuum, instead the which 'gender you like to fuck' continuum. While I prefer the John/Sherlock dynamic opposite to what it is here, this is nevertheless an excellent and damn hot tale of a memorable first encounter with John's army background deftly weaved into a case of murder.
There's A First Time For Everything- The story takes a well-plodded concept/plot and spins it out in a way that almost unashamedly romantic at times, without once being cloying or out of character. Lovely read with some great glimpses to Sherlock's background too.
The Schedule- John goes to a medical conference. Sherlock does not deal with this as well as he expected to. Could be um, intense friendship, but that's not how I'm reading it. Mmm obsession.
The Whore of Babylon Was a Perfectly Nice Girl - Far as I know this has been recced everywhere and deservedly show. (Author also to be credited for writing one of my all time favourite SGA fics). Sherlock, John finds out, is not nearly as inexperienced when it comes to sex as he'd assumed. This is a story that says something quite interesting and profound about sex and relationships, about the physical and the emotional and the intertwining of both, and what passes as 'normal' in any of them, whilst still being thoroughly entertaining.
Terminal South - Oh god the urgency and desperation. For such a short ficlet this pack one hell of a punch.
that thing you like - A charming and in character take on the 'Sherlock takes John home for Christmas' trope. Then they work out some ambiguities.
Other
Deceiving Appearances - Gen. I am so very fond of John Watson being a bad-ass motherfucker. In this little fic Moran discovers just how ill-advised it is to mess with Dr. Watson. Guh.
DSM-IV - Gen. John doesn't like sloppy diagnoses. The psychology geek in me enjoyed this so very much.
Water - Harry/Sarah. The fandom doesn't exactly lend itself to femslash, but this is a believable little ficlet of what could be. Realistic but not cynical.
