I came in part way through it tonight so decided not to watch, as I can catch it later in the week and I wanted to see it in it's entirety. Well want is not quite the right word. I actually don't want to see it but think that I should.

Seriously, is there anyone, in the entire fandom, who thought this was a good move? I mean, even fans who felt neutral about his character or didn't particularly ship him with anyone seem upset. WTF TPTB?

I was so torn whilst watching the episode, because I knew what was coming and yet there were a lot of lovely moments between various characters and apart for the obvious and the stupid plot device to get there, I actually liked it...

And like I said above, I actually liked most of the rest of the episode (except Weir's part because that was so out of character it made no sense whatsoever). Zelenka winning a Swedish massage, John and Ronon bonding over sports and the the whole J: You dating anyone? R: What, like a woman? J(mock casual): Or a man... exchange was priceless and and and the McKay&Beckett interaction was lovely but knowing what was coming (and I also ship those two madly) was goddamn heartbreaking...

And yeah, I didn't get the whole Weir thing... but Beckett desperately looking for someone to go fishing with him was cute the first time I watched it (I was unspoiled, imagine my HORROR) and absolutely heartbreaking the second. Sitting at my computer shouting, "Noooo! Go fishing with him! GO!" does not make me look particularly sane. And didn't work 0_o

It's only now going back over the eps I haven't seen that I'm liking Beckett/McKay and it's TOO LATE. And your icon is cute. And at the same time sad...

I don't get it all. With that and the plans to faze out Weir, bring in Carter for 14 eps for s4 (I like her character, just don't want her in SGA) and the rumours that been circulating about David Hewlett getting restless now that his best buddy was written out, what's there left to see? There's going to be a mass exodus of viewers and you can bet heads will roll in the production department...

It does seem stupid and I know people are saying about how Daniel has died half a million times, and though I do love Carson, I don't think he was a large enough part of the show for them to go in that direction. Surely they couldn't risk Hewlett walking as well though, that would be...something close to show suicide surely?

I like Carter too but she has ten years of backstory so no matter what she's going to have a massive influence if she's that large a part of the season and it just feels like pushing Weir aside because someone randomly decided she wasn't interesting enough. It just all seems like production stupidity, I don't understand at all.

What info I've cleaned from the interwebs does seem to indicate that there are no plans to bring Carson back in any shape or form.

Carter is great but bringing her into SGA means taking time away from other characters similar to hers, mainly Weir (i.e. the strong female lead) and McKay (i.e. the resident genius). *shakes head* The only reason TPTB have apparently given to the decision to cut Carson was that they wanted to "shake things up". I understand not.

I'm tempted to grumble that they should have given him more to do in the first place, but that could just be me being greedy. I really don't like the idea of Carter coming to SGA, one of the things I love about it is the Military vs Intellectual subtext, and she straddles both in a way that will remove a lot of the squabble that I happen to love.

As for shaking things up, aren't you supposed to do that to shows with problems, or that are getting stale, not as a sort of 'surprise, look what we did' thing.
