Have finally reached the 'writing on walls' stage of thesis/general writerdom. Spent some time this afternoon bluetacking paper onto the walls (I do want my deposit back) and scribbling down things... just... needed more room to visualise ideas than computer screen/notebook provided.

Dear people likely to visit me in the near future, I'm sorry for the level of crazy. I promise not to make you wear tinfoil hats or attack you with a meat cleaver.

***

Heads up on poetry stuff: due to a) personal issues* and b) vague plans of submitting stuff somewhere somewhen, I'm feeling increasingly uncomfortable of posting poetry even under a general friends-lock.

Hence, I'm thinking of creating a new journal, just for posting poems and poetry related stuff. That way people who actually want to read it can friend that journal and I don't feel like I'm foisting stuff on people who don't care when posting here.

So... look out for an announcement about that in the coming weeks, I guess.

* It's not you, it's me etc.

*squishes* I will be at that stage of my MSc in a month or so. The BSc was hard enough, I dread to think what to think a PhD thesis would look like. You have my undying respect.

Maybe anyone visiting you should hide the meat cleavers? Or possibly any other sharp objects.

Everything at the PhD Comics (http://www.phdcomics.com/) is trufax.

I don't own a meat cleaver :( Though I have a couple of nice knives hanging off my bedroom wall.

...ugh, hi, I'm honestly harmless.

Just like You know you've worked in a lab too long when FB group. (Plus the FOB thing is so true: I do wonder that).

*hides from the sharp knives*

Really? Also, I took a picture of the White Horse for you today. Will post soon!

Lol, the FOB thing was indeed funny, if traumatizing.

Whee! &you; I look forward to this photo!

Aah, yes, I know that stage of writing. *hugs* I hope the visualisation helps!

I should get back into my MA thesis. *sigh* Borrowing tons of books from the library and not reading them just doesn't count...

Re: possible poetry journal: will defo be friending it when/if you start it. <3

It is helping a little. Mainly I'm writing down ideas and thoughts that I don't think I actually have scope to explore in the thesis proper. Trying to remind myself that 80,000 words isn't actually that much and that I cannot fit ALL THE KNOWLEDGE into it. Sigh.

Good luck with the reading. Start taking notes straight away and typing them up, that way you totally have a chapter draft in no time :D

I would have maybe hunted you down otherwise... Am I being weird about this? Idk, just feel like it needs its own space and not be slotted amidst rl ramble and fannish things. *shrugs* Trying to decide on a journal name I like and that isn't already taken (like, my five first options were already taken and aren't even active journal. So annoying.)

Trying to remind myself that 80,000 words isn't actually that much and that I cannot fit ALL THE KNOWLEDGE into it.

That is a really good thing to remember! (On a smaller scale, I should remember it for my MA too.) Ultimately there's going to be no way of fitting everything into the thesis, but hey - you'll have lots of ideas/material for future articles etc.

Aah yes, I should definitely make notes straight away, otherwise all the knowledge gleaned will blow away immediately. We'll see if I get some done today! Or I could start studying for my exam. Couldshould blaaaaah. :P

No, no, I think it's perfectly logical to want the poetry to have a place of its own. Especially since you're being so productive! Good luck finding a nice journal name.

Blaaaaaaaaaaah. All I've managed today is read an article that was absolutely no use and then some book chapters that are, in a very broad sense that I may use some of it for intro and conclusions chapters but... none of that actually helped me finish this chapter draft.

Anyway. Now that I've whined at you... Hope your day was more productive than mine.

And yes, have settled on a name and set up a new journal for poetry. Just making it pretty and back posting stuff.

Whining is fine! Acawhine at me anytime. <3 Ugh, my day was not productive at ALL. I faffed around and felt inexplicably tired, and then ended up hanging out with my siblings for a while instead of doing anything useful. The most productive thing I did was practise fiddle for a while. *fail*

I will try to make today more productive, but that may prove tough seeing as I should fit the productivity in between two social engagements. OH WELL.

Yaay, awesome about the journal!

*hugs you* Good luck with the PhD. Please don't kill anyone. *g*

Just a note about the bluetack, though: keep an eye on it. The oils can stain some wallpapers really fast, and soak into some paint finishes too, especially matt finishes.

Don't tell my landlord, but this is the voice of experience: I had a poster up on one of my walls for a week or two, just seeing if I liked it there, and when I took it down, the oils from the bluetack had soaked into/stained the matt paint finish. Had to go over it with nail varnish to seal it, and then re-paint. *facepalm*

*hugs back* Thank you, so far there are no fatalities. Except my mental stability.

And yeah, I know that about the blue tack. All my posters etc. are actually on pins but as the walls are quite hard it's a pain in the ass. This is, as the upstairs girls put it, 'a house that jack built' anyway, I don't think the landlord is going to have an issue with blue tack marks (though he might have had with EPISTEMOLOGICAL VACUUM --> ONTOLOGICAL INSECURITY written across the wall proper...)

I have more blue tack now as well \o/

Tinfoil is an universal fashion accessory for the highly paranoid! It goes with everything!

Well blue tack is always useful for all sorts of things.

Hello Steve - yes you are a pretty boy.

Tinfoil - hmm. I'm looking forward to seeing you create some clothes from it.
