Hurrah, I have written some drabbles that are actually drabbles, i.e. 100 words and no more. Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] pushkin666 or prompts.

Here's the first:

Deeper Meaning – Lewis – hints of Hathaway/Lewis – G

Prompt: musical tastes

It was all about words for James. His love of language had blossomed early and even now, after all he’d experienced beyond the confines of musty pages, it remained something that defined the very core of him.

And as much as he enjoyed music, the feel of guitar strings under his fingers, it was the words interweaving with notes that really held his attention.

He knew Robbie wouldn’t pay attention to the lyrics, and even if he did, he wouldn’t think they meant anything. Still, James thought, carefully placing the gift-wrapped CD on Robbie’s desk, at least he’d said them.

Really, really good. In-character and (yay) romantic.

I am a hopeful romantic at heart :) Thank you very much for your comment, glad you enjoyed the drabble.

Very very James and of course Robbie would pay attention to the lyrics.

I don't know... not right away I don't think. Maybe eventually because James has taught him to pay attention to words.

Well he worked with Morse for a long time, and I think he would have learned to pay attention to words with Morse. That's one of the things he particularly enjoys about working with James. Robbie may not appear to notice things, but I think he does.

Now who's a hopeful romantic? *smiles* Aww, okay, I'll stop internalising Hathaway's issues and trust that Robbie will listen and hear what he uses the songs to say.

Also, I now kind of want to write a drabble from Robbie's pov now... What songs do you think are on the CD?

Shuddup :D This is the only fandom I am happy to be a hopeful romantic in (*cough* other than Strictly). Yes yes yes you should write a drabble from Robbie's POV. Songs, you want me to think about songs. You know I'm not a lyric girl here *g*. I shall ponder.

*laughs at you gently anyway* But yeah, I don't think I could bear to read or write anything really dark for this pair (well, not without a happy ending anyway).

I think I can write a drabble without actually referring to any particular songs... We shall see. also, have an idea for the third one where they get together, gah!

Sure but you know you're just itching to create a fanmix for them!! All I shall say to that is fanworks challenge.

Also. I get that. I really wouldn't want anything really dark with these two. They are very much my happy place.

James may have misjudged Robbie. As the previous commenter says, Robbie learned more than he thinks from Morse. He's aware of nuances. James may be surprised.
P.S., *you* have a lovely way with words.

What James is doing is a safe option if he thinks that Robbie won't get it. So if he does... that might be a bit scary.

Thank you so much :)

Oh, how lovely.

As for not listening to lyrics, I rarely do so, but if someone gave me a special CD as a gift, I would do so after all. Maybe Robbie would do as well?

Thank you so much.

I freely admit writing myself for James here; I'm all about the lyrics. I like, but don't know music, whereas words I know. Yeah, words are important to me.

Everyone is convincing me (and Hathaway!) that Robbie would pay attention to the lyrics... :D

That's beautiful - though I don't follow the show or fandom you gave a tiny portrait of the people involved in just a drabble!

Thank you :) It's nice to write drabbles again (about the extent of my attention span at the moment, all else is taken over by thesis). I'm really pleased the characters came through.

Hee, this just felt like something Hathaway would do, a kind of roundabout but still obvious way of saying 'hey, this is how I feel'. Thank you for reading and commenting!

Oh, that is nice! I like Lewis - love the interaction between Robbie and James and you've caught it very nicely here. Thank you for sharing:)

I am so completely enamoured by the programme, enough to even be able to suppress the '...that's not how police investigate crimes!' comments *g*

Thank you very much for your comment, I'm happy you liked this.

*soothes your heart* Don't worry, everyone was so adamant about Robbie looking beyond the surface that I have written a short continuation ficlet... Think there might even be a happy ending in a third part :D
