you don't deserve any less

Poem meme: When you see this, post a poem.
Perhaps not technically a poem (extract from a play), but I saw this on the flist a while back and this is the perfect excuse to share it.
Reflections of a Skyline - extract from Crave by Sarah Kane
And I wanna play hide and seek, give you my clothes, tell you I love your shoes, sit on the steps while you take a bath and massage your neck, and kiss your face, and hold your hand, and go for a walk. Not mind when you eat my food. Meet you at Rudy's and talk about the day, talk about your day. And laugh at your, paranoia. And give you tapes you don't listen to, and watch great films, watch terrible films. and tell you about the tv program I saw the night before. And not laugh at your jokes.
Want you in the morning but let you sleep in for awhile. Tell you how much I love, your eyes, your lips, your tits, your arse. And sit on the steps smoking till your neighbors come home, and sit on the steps smoking till you come home. And worry you're late, and amazed when you're early.
And give you sunflowers, and go to your party and dance. Be sorry when I'm wrong, and happy when you forgive me. Look at your photos and wish I'd known you forever.
Hearing your voice, in my ear. Feel your skin, on my skin. And get scared when you're angry, and tell you you're gorgeous, and hug you when you're anxious, and hold you when you hurt, and want you when I smell you, and offend you when I touch you, and whimper when I'm next to you, and whimper when I'm not.
Dribble on your breast, smother you in the night, and get cold when you take the blanket, and hot when you don't, and melt when you smile, and dissolve when you laugh, but not understand how you think I'm rejecting you, when I'm not rejecting you, and wonder, how you could think I'd ever reject you. And wonder who you are, but accept you anyway. And tell you about the tree angel, and the enchanted forest boy, who flew across the ocean, because he loved you.
And buy you presents you don't want, and take them away again, and ask you to marry me, and you'll say no again, but keep on asking because though, you think I don't mean it but I always have from the first time I asked you.
I wander the city, thinking. But it's empty without you. But I want what you want and think I'm losing myself, but, but, but, I'll tell you the worst of me, and try, to give you the best of me, because, you don't deserve any less.
Answer your questions when I'd rather not, and tell you the truth when I really don't want to, and try to be honest, because I know you prefer it. And think it's all over but, hang on for just ten more minutes, before you throw me out of your life. Forget who I am and let me try and get closer to you.
And somehow, somehow communicate some of the, overwhelming, undying, overpowering, unconditional, all encompassing, heart enriching, mind expanding, ongoing, never ending, love, I have, for you.

Jack Gilbert
Everyone forgets that Icarus also flew.
It's the same when love comes to an end,
or the marriage fails and people say
they knew it was a mistake, that everybody
said it would never work. That she was
old enough to know better. But anything
worth doing is worth doing badly.
Like being there by that summer ocean
on the other side of the island while
love was fading out of her, the stars
burning so extravagantly those nights that
anyone could tell you they would never last.
Every morning she was asleep in my bed
like a visitation, the gentleness in her
like antelope standing in the dawn mist.
Each afternoon I watched her coming back
through the hot stony field after swimming,
the sea light behind her and the huge sky
on the other side of that. Listened to her
while we ate lunch. How can they say
the marriage failed? Like the people who
came back from Provence (when it was Provence)
and said it was pretty but the food was greasy.
I believe Icarus was not failing as he fell,
but just coming to the end of his triumph.

And breaks apart the dusky clouds of night.
The end of all is hinted in the start.
When we are born we bear the seeds of blight;
Around us life & death are torn apart,
Yet a great ring of pure & endless light
Dazzles the darkness in my heart.
It lights the world to my delight.
Infinity is present in each part.
A loving smile contains all art.
The motes of starlight spark and dart.
A grain of sand holds power & might.
Infinity is present in each part,
And a great ring of pure and endless light
Dazzles the darkness in my heart.
