So, went to see Sherlock Holmes with
trialia tonight. And boy, you guys weren't lying about the bro yay. But how come no one said anything about the entirely unsubtle d/s dynamic? It's not just me, right? Because...
I mean really, the second scene: Holmes crawling to Watson on his hands and knees. And then sitting at his feet, leaning his head against Watson's legs. I pretty much choked on my tongue repeatedly. In a good way.
Film was visually awesome. Explosions were very pretty, use of alternative angles was good, period London breath-taking in its detail. I have preciously little to say about the plot (there was not!black magick, plan to take over the world and the introduction of Moriarty paving way for the inevitable sequel), because I was mostly asquee about the epic and glaringly obvious bromance unfolding in all its glory (oh there was a sub in this movie, it just wasn't in the text). The bickering! The co-dependency! The domesticity ('I thought I left the stove on.' 'You did.' and "Our dog!')! The not-talking-about-our-feelings awkwardness!
And holy crap, the d/s vibe! For example: Holmes is upset Watson is planning on marriage. How does he deal with this threat of losing hisdom friend? He goes and gets himself beaten up at a boxing match. Where he knows Watson likes to go to bet. He spends a good long time getting his ass kicked and scanning the crowd to see if Watson is there, and only when it's obvious he won't be coming, does Holmes finish off his opponent. There are also several scenes where Holmes is basically acting like a pushy brat, trying every trick to get Watson's attention (and mostly succeeding), a scene where Watson hits Holmes just to shut him up, and another one where he leaves Holmes to hang from a rope (a fake noose, harmless) just because he can and it amuses him, even though Holmes tells him that he's losing feeling in his tongue and it would therefore be useless.
...
Yeah.
So hey, if you didn't guess already, I fucking loved it.
