Supernatural Drabble: Cauterize

Drabble Fest 5/12 – for sadiane. Fandom and pairing/characters as requested.



Cauterize – Supernatural – Gen or implied Castiel/Dean – PG-13
Prompt: Repairs


“I can end it.” Castiel glances up where the sky is boiling, demons pouring out like pus from an open wound.

 “You don’t have to do this,” Dean says.

“I know.” And that’s the best and worst gift Dean Winchester ever gave him; freedom of choice.

“No,” Dean pleads. “Not you too.”

But Castiel is out of reach by now, already burning as he rises higher and higher. He thinks he finally understands them; Jimmy, Dean and Sam, even Lilith in her own way. It’s not the sacrifice itself that makes the act sacred. It’s those who you sacrifice for.

Ouch! But the good, transcendent, angsty SPN sort of ouch. I LOVE the idea of Dean giving Cas choice, and all the implications of that, and the way there's so much more story in the burn out edges.

This was brilliant, but ouch. If Kripke has decided that Castiel doesn't make it past this season, then this is the way I want him to go out.

Teeny tiny nitpick: 'pus' is generally spelt with one 's'.

*snicker* yes, well, angel fetish is an accurate and professionaly diagnosis. inkblot_fiend, ginnystar and I came to this conclusion over some coffee, cake, and dicussion of your fic.

Castiel getting to have freedom of choice - something an angel never really gets usually - absolutely breaks my heart. Ohh, Cas.

Yes, exactly. I think that's a big theme of the show here, that once you give people (or angels) a choice, you have to risk that they won't choose what you want them to.

Aww thank you so much! *blushes* I really like writing drabbles, the discipline of having to fit what you want to 100 words is good for me, because I have tendency to be really wordy usually.
