So, [profile] clarey_h posted a piece about feedback and constructive criticism in [community profile] lifein1973, which prompted a very interesting discussion - read it here.

This then gave [profile] aspacer an idea of brilliant proportions, a community for getting constructive criticism on your fic after publication. I let her explain:
Ever not gotten feedback on a piece and known it was 'case it stunk, but didn't know how to fix it? Ever really wanted constructive criticism to help you improve your writing? Ever really wanted to *give* constructive feedback to help a writer improve, to help the community improve, but didn't want to risk getting attacked or hurting someone who only wanted squees? The join [profile] fanfic_omegas - the community where you can get beta quality feedback after publication.

This will only work if enough people will join so please go sign up and pimp on your journals and communities. If you do, please let [profile] aspacer know, here is her original post.

Have read through all the comments and have joined - haven't posted a comment because you have to log out and in and things before you can.
Will probably put link to your post in my lj to pimp - am in a bit of a rush!
Hoping to use the comm. for in depth crit.
Haven't forgotten about the fic you're giving me concrit on - just haven't time to do it justice at the moment.
Thanks for the post!

Fledge thinks you should get the same results from conscientious betas but she betas for me and I don't altogether trust her impartiality. Besides, new comments would be good - and should help me 'grow' as a writer.

good betas will give you concrit but I think it is always good to get a second (or third or fourth or...) opinion. If I decide to use the comm once it gets off the ground it will in no way be because I'm not happy with my betas, it's more about just getting a fresh set of eyes on things.

Yes, especially if it works as I hope and people are 'omega-ing' from other fandoms, in which case they'll be concentrating on writing style rather than grammar and characterisation.
