It starts as a whisper, something hushed between the kids about Seongwha declining dinner invites, disappearing for the evenings without an explanation. Hongjoong ignores it because he’s trained himself not to pay more attention to Seongwha than he does the others, because he doesn’t want to think about the implications.
They blindside him anyway.
“I’m dating someone.” Seongwha looks him in the eye when he tells him, not defensive, just certain. “He’s a good man. You don’t have to worry.”
“I’m not worried.” Hongjoong is not lying. It’s not worry that hollows him out like a sunken ship. It’s regret.
