Kris is not supposed to see him. The final trial is carefully guarded, intensely private, unique to each trainee. Kris has never spoken about his to anyone. He doesn’t expect Adam to do so either, only to survive.
He’d called in several favours just to happen to be walking through the same corridor Adam is taking on his way to the trial chamber, just to pass each other in silence, to catch his eyes. The trial will break him, like it does all of them. Kris wants Adam to know that he won’t have to put himself together alone, afterwards.
