“You should run,” Gerard says. His hair is wet, plastered flat, his clothes sodden. “You should… Please. Please just go.” He looks like he might be crying but it’s impossible to tell. The rain comes down in sheets, unrelenting and violent.
“No.” Mikey is shivering, cold and scared because this feels like a precipice, like watching Gerard stand on an edge of a cliff and not knowing if he can reach him in time. “I’m not going anywhere without you.”
Gerard’s face twists, ugly with anger, uglier still with desperation. “If you don’t, I’ll hurt you!” he shouts. Somewhere nearby a forked lightning flashes to the ground, the clap of thunder right on its heels loud enough to make Mikey’s ears ring. “I’ll hurt you,” Gerard repeats, choked, like a secret he believes in. There’s electricity dancing over his skin, blue and crackling.
Mikey shakes his head. “I don’t think you will,” he says and steps closer, closer, closer, until he feels the hair on his arms stand up, reacting to the current running through Gerard. “But you could,” he whispers, “if you wanted to.”
Gerard’s breath hitches on a sob. “I’m dangerous,” he says, as if that’s not something Mikey’s known all his life, as if it isn’t why he loves Gerard in every way possible, without limits, dangerously.
The air blazes white as lightning strikes down all around them. It looks uncontrolled. Mikey knows it’s everything but, so he doesn’t even flinch, his hand steady and unhesitating as he lays it over his brother’s burning heart.
“We’ll be dangerous together then,” he says. It’s an oath, sealed with a kiss that tastes like ozone, wrecks them both like a storm.
