It is hotter than witch's tits right now and I was not genetically made for this weather. I was made for -30C, not +30C and I am not a fan of the very real consequences of climate change slapping me in the face right now.
Anyway, whilst sitting on the sofa tonight, my feet in a bowl of cold water, I clicked on the LGBTQ section of Netflix. And because the internet is literally watching me back it knows what I like, and that's romantic Korean m/m fanfic. I mean, film. And this is not the weather made to resist brain candy. So.
Wish For You
Is this the top tier of film-making or -writing? No. But it is beautifully shot, romantic af, and set in the Korean idol industry and honestly, I'm here for it. An aspiring singer Kang In Soo (incongruously named after... the actor who plays him, also called Kang In Soo, because of reasons I assume are to do with the actors being 'up and coming idols' themselves, and the singing supports that I guess) catches the attention of an assistant producer and pianist Yoon Sang Yi whilst busking. Soon they are making moon eyes at each other whilst sharing a microphone. There is some drama and angst but everything is resolved by sticking it to the corporate man in the name of true love and creative freedom. Also enjoyed the supporting cast a lot.
You can find the official trailer on YT but I didn't like it so you can have the OST MV. It obviously has some spoilers but not many, mostly spoiling how much soft gazing happens in this film. The song is also very sweet and has gone to my playlist.
The writers had a trope checklist that they meticulously ticked off. Find it under the cut in case you care
Freeform tags for thefic film: making music together, confident guy/shy guy, omg they were roommates, sharing feelings through song, someone opens a door topless fresh from the shower, she ships it, getting drunk together, best friend approval, pretending to sleep while almost getting kissed, struck dumb by each other's talent, i thought you weren't home so i was playing the piano soulfully but oh no you caught me, song-writing collage that includes a lot of wandering around Seul with a guitar and leaning together because that's how you make music, neck grabbing, forehead lean, surprise kissing, misunderstandings, there is almost only one bed but I guess the rating wasn't high enough for that, hidden past, abandoning fame for love, happy ending.
Honestly, would recommend if you just want some pretty pining in soft focus.
