Author notes: For
brush_and_lantern January prompt 'renew, reverse, reboot'. My 9th fic for the Scribblers' 100 Fandoms Challenge I'm doing with
pushkin666 and
dreamersdare. AO3 Collection here.
He does not expect an 'after' but it finds him anyway; finds all of them, like a wind catching falling cherry blossoms, flinging them toward the sky instead.
Shen Wei opens his eyes and the world is whole and unbloodied, each part of it waking up as if from a long dream.
Kneeling on the wet grass of the mountainside, he reaches out hesitantly, fingers closing around flesh and bone.
"Zhao Yunlan." The name melts on his tongue like hope. "What do you remember?"
"You," Zhao Yunlan says. His eyes are clear, his smile like a sunrise. "I remember you."
