Thanks to verdande_mi for linking this! I haven't laughed as much for a while. Like verdande_mi, I'm not sure how funny this is for non-Nordics but to me it was hilarious! A short stand-up clip about Nordic communication, 90% in English - do check it out! :D:D:D The bit about Finnish mosquitos at the end made me laugh until I cried!

OH! That was wonderful! Nordic humor about Nordic communication. I had no idea that Finnish was so different. All Nordic languages are a mystery to me, as they're not even offered in any of the schools I attended. I loved it!

Oh yay, I'm glad the humour translated :D Adn yes, Finnish (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finnish_language) is in a whole different language family than the other Nordic languages. Which meant that learning Swedish in school was not eased by any familiarity :D

Lol, I don't think there is much call for Nordic languages in most areas in the US?

Only if you're from Minnesota. (grin) That's the land of the Norwegians and Swedes. (I have friends from there, and one is of Norwegian descent and the other Swedish.)

Yes - it was funny. I'm not sure how far that's due to my having Finnish colleagues (on AO3) who also discuss language, plus knowing you. But yes, it was funny and yes, the mosquitos made me laugh - and swear never ever to visit Finland!!

It's tough to judge how well national humour translates :D I know for a fact that many British things are funny to be because I've lived here for so long, but if I hadn't then the joke would just be lost! And yes, the mosquitos can be pretty vicious, especially if you haven't the tolerance!
