And here is the second answer to the DVD Commentary Meme.
redsnake05 wanted a DVD commentary on one of my Alex/Ryland drabbles Dream a Little Dream of Me.
DVD commentary on Dream a Little Dream of Me
Red’s prompt for this drabble was ‘stars’. It took me forever to come up with an idea and then I of course got two at the same time (another drabble for that prompt is here).
Dream a Little Dream of Me is one of my favourite songs, and one of very, very few I can hum/sing within a reasonable distance of the right key (I am terrible at singing/music, terrible). It is such a wistful song, about saying goodbye to a friend/lover (I think the interpretation works both ways for this song, which is why it's suitable for the pairing in question) and there’s a distinct sense of wanting to be with someone you can’t at the moment (except in dreams).
It takes him a minute to recognise the song. It sounds fuller the way Alex is playing it, thick and close.
In my head Alex’s version is slower and more intimate, than the original.
Ryland lowers himself to the floor, sitting cross-legged next to Alex. “We should record it,” he says.
Alex startles, his hands stilling on the strings. “It’s not really a Cobra song.”
“Not Cobra. We as in you and me.”
My soul for an Ivy League cover of this song. I also think that it’s the type of song that they would cover, somewhat similar to their own type of music. Cobra cover of this, however, would be hilarious.
“Yeah?” Alex’s smile is like the new arrangement, slow and deep. “That could work.”
Ryland snatches up his guitar from behind the sofa. Their knees are touching, voices fitting together in harmony, just like always.
“Stars shining all around you...”
So I think all of my flist already knows this, but I have such a kink for BFF pairings. You know that sweet, slow slide from friends to something more, something different, that moment when the world tilts just a little and it’s like you see the other person for the first time even though you’ve seen them thousands of times already, that breathless free-falling second when sexual attraction suddenly hits you low in the stomach... Yeah, love it all.
And of course Alex/Ryland is just full of BFF canon. They’re just so comfortable around each other, and I think on tour they keep each other sane. It was one of these quiet moments I wanted to convey with the drabble, when the important things don’t need to be said out loud. Also the image of them in the dim bus lounge, sitting cross-legged on the floor with their guitars, makes me melt into a puddle of goo.
PS.
redsnake05 - I am working on your mix. It's ready in my head but laptop is making technicalities of putting stuff together very slow. Sorry for the delay baby but you will get it.
