Heh, Adam Lambert goes surprisingly well with Bourdieu.
IDK, I find Bourdieu really interesting, if fucking hard to understand at times (dude, I know you were clever, it's still ok to write in sentences shorter than 50 words). *shrugs* some of his work is of relevance to my thesis, mainly the stuff about professional fields and what makes a profession a profession.
I once wish there would have been a book called "Bourdieu for dummies". I had to re-read practically every other sentence in his articles. It's like he got a kick out of writing long and meandering sentences. I hope you manage to get his points better than I did.
I would buy that book, no lie. Yeah, I know what you mean about reading everything twice before it makes sense. The process is sort of 'wtf did he mean? - read again - huh so he's saying... - read again - ah! - rephrase in simple words'
My LJ used to be titled Disregarding Bourdieu. That happened after I complained about his writing to someone who hadn't read him before--she took one look and said "...I think you can just disregard this guy."
I like Bourdieu when someone else does the work of translating his ideas into smaller words, but reading him kind of makes me cry. Caffeine I've tried; does Adam Lambert help?
Lol lol, I really wanted to disregard Bourdieu but my thesis supervisor decided I really shouldn't... And well, he might have had a point. But I do still resent that fact that reading Bourdieu is like carefully unpicking a really complicated knot, just figure out what colour the string actually is (...bad analogy is bad?)
And Adam Lambert totally helps. I enjoy listening to bdsm-themed electro pop with my srs academic writing. *nodnod*
