1. Me when I watch reacters on YT: some of you have grown up by never watching any media not in your native language that has subtitles and it shows. Okay, listen, I know there are a whole variety of reasons why people struggle with subtitles but English language privilege is a thing and if I got a pound every time a reacter went 'omg it's so haaaaaaaaaard to read the subtitles and also follow the mv' I would by now have paid at least half of my monthly energy bill.

2. I have written 30k of fic this year. Please witness.

3. Is anyone interested in betaing 6k of femmeslash? I finally finished the Hustlers (2019 film) post-canon Destiny/Ramona fic. It's barely a T and mostly just them gettinng back together. And then getting together. Mostly I just want a spag check but if you've watched the movie then awesome. If you haven't you should, but you could also watch this awesome fanvid by sisabet. Obviously, there are people who have physical issues with subtitles but otherwise I've never understood this.

I *want* to hear the actor's voice which is so much part of their performance, even if I can't understand what they're saying. Dubs always distort this, always. I accidentally caught the first few minutes of Yin-Yang Master dubbed - settings were wrong - and they both sounded like American dude bros.

I have watched so much with subtitles because Pat is very hard of hearing that I don't even think about them anymore. Even if it's in a language I understand, I read the subtitles. (I'm always amused when they don't actually match the dialogue.)

You write a lot.

I'm desperately trying to get ahead on the second book, as the first book comes out this month, and I have to have the second book in to the publisher by October. EGADS!

Ugh, people who complain about subtitles are the worst--well actually the very worst are people who won't even consider a film/show/what have yous if it's subtitled. There is so much great cinema out there that isn't in English, you're really missing out if you dismiss it all. I'd take subtitles over dubbing all day everyday.

Yeah, I know some types of neurodiversity can make subtitles challenging but that doesn't seem to be issue when people also exclaim genuine surprised that artistic talent exits outside their country...

The only dubs I like are the ones for children's animation, largely because certainly in Finland you'd often get well known actors for things like Disney movies and with good translators you get the humour and wordplay in a way that's also funny in Finnish. So then I get to watch it twice and find it funny in two slightly different way. It's same like how I love the Finnish translator for the Pratchett's books who is a legit language wizard, they are amazing in keeping the tone but making them hilarious in Finnish.

I admit I often still have English subs on for English language programmes because when I'm tired it still helps. My best experience of Shakespeare was the play that had live subs for the dialogue because I can understand it so much better read than just by listening.

Ngl what really makes me 🙄🙄 is the exclamations of 'wow they're as good as American singer/rapper/musician' like some people have never even considered that art or talent exists elsewhere... How?

Sometimes I am not sure if they understand that people outside of their country really do exist, never mind that we're all also people and that "American" is not a value status or a default.
