Oh man, still internetless at home. Have to teach in 14 minutes (FLOGGINGS!!). Also, this icon by [livejournal.com profile] ginnytonnick  is never not hilarious. And terrifying.

However, let's do a self-indulgent meme (because it's my Name Day!! I want cake!). I don't have time to find your LJ posts of this, but if you comment by telling me what surprised you about me, I will reply (tomorrow) with the same here :D

*MEME
What has surprised you the most about me (if anything) since beginning to read my lj [or when you met IRL, for those who have]? Was anything completely unexpected or have I always fit the picture of me you have in your head?

(hope you're feeling better hun)

Same as [livejournal.com profile] trialia, I was surprised when I found out you're blonde.

Also? I have to scroll down to hide your icon. It scares me.

I don't get it! Is there something about me that screams "brunette" or something? :D

Honestly, I was surprised by your age. Because you seem so much more mature, both as a person and as a writer. (She said she was over 18, your Honour! I swear!)

Hee, must work harder at that!

The only thing that made me blink once I got the connection was your username - moomins being a Finnish creation... :D

I was surprised how into bandom you are.

(In kinda related news, I was also surprised your uni lets you lecture in a hoodie. The Dept. chair throws fits if I read the Art History lecture whilst wearing trainers.)

I am surprised how into bandom I am.

And hee, I don't lecture to large audiences, just teach small tutorial groups (5-10), though I don't think that would make a difference. My supervisor goes around in old cargo pants and t-shirts with like Che Guevera on them. Ah academia, how I love thee.

I was surprised and impressed by all the film stuff you do, it sounds all very cool :D

i'm sorry, i'm a huge freak, and this obviously has more to do with me being neurotic than with you, but.

your inconsistent use of capitalization. it baffles me. o.O

i've seen you write comments in all lower case and with proper capitalization but it all seems very random. sometimes you even start a paragraph in lower case letters and suddenly switch in the middle to correct capitalization. and then switch back again. this only caught my attention because your words and writing are otherwise so precise and flawless. (ok, so i may have stalked a bit your lj commenting habits because i got curious am a weirdo.) anyway, this is all very quirky and fascinating to me.

Oh man, now I feel totally lame for not having a deep meaningfull reason for this annoying habit. Simple truth is that I'm just lazy and inconsistentand yes, just random. I use proper capitalization in fics, usually all lower case in poetry/pretentious ramblings (mainly because I like it aesthetically), but there is no actual reason for my inconsistency in comments. You'll just have to live with my random, I'm afraid...

With you I was surprised by the art thing, though of course in retrospect I don't know why...

hee, thank you for explaining, now i can stop fixating on this. and it isn't annoying, i just thought there was a logic to it that i didn't get.

This is actually a good one. :) I noticed it too, but for some reason it didn't surprise me. But yeah.

Apparently you're blond? Haha, no - I never thought about it much but you're from the North, from the COLD COUNTRIES, so it's logical you're a blonde. Because. Hm. Everyone there is? ;) :P

No, you haven't actually surprised me - everything I found out about you fit with the great impression I had at the beginning. :)

Well see yes, to my mind this is how the stereotype were to work if it did. *baffled*

D'aaawww, thank you darling. Same here. I'm not so much surprised as constantly amazed of your talent and adventures... :D

hmmm

Well, when we were writing back and forth on the meme, I was struck, maybe not surprised so much as awestruck, by the way you captured the brutal beauty of the scene, inhabited it, and at the same time advocated for a kind of conventional romanticism. It's a contradiction I didn't see coming, but that worked, regardless.

This is both very perspective and one of the loveliest compliments (and yes, I'm taking it as one) I've received. I am without a doubt, not so closeted romantic and for me there isn't any huge contradiction, just how I roll. Meaningless sex is empty. BDSM gives sex meaning beyond sex. There is inherent aspect of sex mattering beyond simply getting off, of people involved mattering as more than just a warm body to rut against. BDSM, even if you just "play" with someone you don't have some type of relationship, requires care and focus and empathy and putting someone else first, and that to me is the core of it.

BLONDE. But then I'm unoriginal. But, clearly everyone perceives you to be a brunette. The fact that you aren't actually English surprised me when I first found out, because your grasp of the language is astounding indeed - I would never be able to write in any language other than my mother tongue, and I've studied three others.

...um, I don't think anything else has surprised me.

yes blonde omg! *g* And thank you very much for the compliment. To be fair, I've read English about 10 years in school and have now lived in the UK for 9 years...

With you too I was surprised by your age, you seemed much older than you were (cue me having a slight: omg corrupting minors! again! moment...). But hey, everyone's legal now! \o/ *g*

My age is a point of constant mockery in my flat, particularly because York in general is a killer for ID so I'm always left at home when they go out on student nights. I don't really mind that much though. I am, as it happens, a record for my university as being the youngest person admitted EVAH. I feel as though this is a good thing, though it probably isn't.

Still: SUPER DUPER ENGLISH SKILLZ.
