This is a depressingly short list of stuff that saw the light of the internets this year. However, the total word count of the year is actually much higher because in the autumn
dreamersdare and I fell hard for Stray Kids and have since produced a truly obscene amount of words in several different fics all barring one which are in wip status. I did the tally to the best of my ability and in 2022 I wrote just of 51k of fic, the last ~20k of which are SKZ wips lol. In addition I wrote about the same amount for the 'Kat's Irreverent Readers' Digest' of Wheel of Time Re/Read Book Club over at
tar_valon so... Words were had.
But anyway, traditional summary of stuff that actually got posted.

Meme Questions
Leitmotifs of the year:
1) All the K-pop, all the time. By which I mean '
dreamersdare I have a large Venn diagramme overlap between our likes and fanon interpretations and largely have found the existing SKZ fandom not catering for it so now we're creating it for ourselves'
2) Neglecting some other writing projects because of that
Most popular story:
By metric of hits and kudos both, it's hands down 'in the course, in the night' because SKZ fandom is both active and thirsty af apparently.
My best story this year:
'Peace Accords'. I meant to write some filthy porn and instead did worldbuilding. There's some vaguely clever trope inversion and use of war imagery for sex and am pleased with the results. I occasionally toy with ideas for expanding the story but it also stands fine as it is so...
Hardest story to write:
Nothing has felt too hard. 'Skipping Stone' probably because I haven't managed to put anything down about the next chapter yet (I have a lot of emotions about the ~atmosphere~ of the next scene but nothing concrete yet). I probably took longest with 'lift you up (hold you when you
fall)' and wrote the first half of it in fits and starts, but I think that was just about not having the right headspace for it, because the second half poured out in pretty much one evening once
dreamersdare and I got into the cottage for our writing retreat.
Easiest story to write:
See below answer to 'most fun story to write', it's the same one.
Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Eh... I'll say 'Tacit' and 'lift you up (hold you when you fall)'. BTS tag is so saturated that I'm not surprised, and while I adore this pairing I gather it's not like the most popular one. Add to that a clear d/s vibe and the readership narrows.
Most fun story to write:
All the K-pop ones co-written with
dreamersdare, both published and the ones still in development. Both the best and the worst thing about knowing someone as well as we do each other is that you know exactly what buttons to push but also, with us, those buttons are often shared, so you just end up playing yourself as well. Anyway, there's a distinct flavour of smug evil to our writing as we see just how many of tropes and scenarios we can shove into a fic that we know will hit the other exactly where it hurts (hurts so good).
Fluffiest story:
I don't think I wrote everything really fluffy... 'this ain't a scene (it's a goddamn heart chase)' maybe at its heart because it's Aziraphale and Crowley :D 'In Synch' is has some dorky drunken flirting. 'Beat Change', 'lift you up (hold you when you fall)' and 'in the course, in the night' all are all about the ~feels~ so...
Most angsty story:
'Bittersweet' and 'all the things you feared (i was)' probably because of the implications. Skipping Stone because the canon is pretty angsty on this particular plot point. 'Tacit' describes a mental state that is somewhat angsty.
Sexiest story:
I didn't write anything E-rated in 2022! 'Peace Accords' has maybe the only one that has anything that could even be described as a sex scene though it's short and metaphor laden. Oh and 'all the things you feared (i was)' has a forced orgasm so... 'Beat Change' has some seduction via dancing... oh wait, wait, 'Secured' has some handcuff action that apparently hit the mark for some readers. Actually though, personally, for me, it's 'Tacit' because the subtle vibe and the kneeling are where it's at.
"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
Nothing published is particularly outrageous or unexpected for me. There's d/s vibes all over the place but that's like a staple for me. 'Bittersweet' and 'all the things you feared (i was)' have sex magic and thus heavy implications of dub con, but honestly... pretty tame all around. The SKZ street gang AU has some very morally grey things and dynamics one wouldn't call like 'healthy relationships' but that's yet to come :D
Biggest Disappointment:
As always, just not finding time/energy to write more.
Biggest Surprise:
The ferocity and speed with which SKZ pulled me under and the amount of words that has resulted in.
Most Unintentionally Telling Story:
Nothing that scraped the depths of my soul or anything. Like 'oh Kat likes d/s' is in no way secret or a surprise so... *shrugs* Some of the stuff that has been written but not yet published will be telling in a different way because dreamersdare and I abuse the hell out of our combined professional knowledge and degrees to make the fucked upness the characters and their interactions like... evidence-based :D
Story I haven't yet written, but intend/hope to:
Haha, here is the picture of the projects I've listed in the getyourwordsout trackers. I've managed some little things for
fandomtrees and everything else there is in developmental stage.
