Right, just watched Good Omens 2 and
OMFG!!!! Look, right, we (as in, the fandom, the queers) are not used to actually getting what we want so whilst I was swooning over the significant glances and the numerous hints and 'mistaken for a couple' tropes, and even whilst they went there with Gabriel and Beelzebub in a glaringly obvious parallel, and then especially as Aziraphale interrupted Crowley and I thought okay, it's going to remain unsaid because I did not seriously believe we would actually get this, actually, explicitly on the scene but... NO, NOT ON GAIMAN'S WATCH, WE GET A LOVE CONFESSION!!! AND A DRAMATIC AF KISS!!!!!!!!
You don't understand. Actually, no, you do understand, yes, you. I screamed and scrambled up and almost over the sofa. I woke up the cats. There were tears streaming down my face.
And then, fucking murder as the storyline reached into my chest and pulled out my bleeding heart jasedijweaio'rwafeskl. Yes, I know there's a third and final act. Eventually. But. Just. Meanwhile, SOBBING.

This is my first m/m fandom that's become canon, and no, I was not expecting it either! Even when there were a few points there where Crowley was seriously stretching the plausible deniability of subtext. ;) I come from a generation where it didn't happen, period, and we were resigned to that. A lot of fans nowadays have a belief that these things will happen in canon, but I'm actually glad I didn't because it was such an exciting and wonderful surprise! They hit it out of the park with that scene! David's acting was phenomenal, and the script was perfection. It breaks my heart, and I still love it.
I'm spending my time watching fan vids on YouTube (where luckily, most of the fans feel the way I do) and reading some fix-its - but I don't really need them too much because I know their breakup is only temporary until S3 which will probably be better than fanfiction!! (and that simply doesn't happen normally).
I enjoyed S1, loved how cute they were together, and wrote a few fanfics but I didn't consider it a huge fandom for me. S2 changed all that. I'm now officially obsessed and I never saw that coming either. I haven't been into anything like this since longer than I care to say. I'm having the time of my life.

God, like you said I don't think younger fans/ppl understand what a big deal this was and honestly, I'm kinda of glad because it is a sign of progress. When I say I cried at this scene it was in part because of the heartbreak of it (agree, the acting was phenomenal) but mostly it was the emotional enormity of it happening in the first place.

I was thinking back over season one, and have to laugh at myself now for being surprised. It really was obvious. But I was oblivious to anything but subtext because I was conditioned to expect only that - no matter how blatant. (I remember an old show with Tony Randall where he was flat out supposed to be gay, only they weren't allowed to ever actually *say* it).
