Season 1 Grimm Feels

I still haven't gotten around to finding some Grimm icons so I had to make one (or ten. um.) quickly. Because Monroe. Feel free to snag it. I may get around to doing a proper Monroe icon post but there's no guarantees.
Anyways, I have now finished season 1 of Grimm. The finale made me go all 'LOL H50 COPIED YOU'. Anyway, now I have... thoughts. And feelings. Granted, the former are not very highbrow and the latter largely centre on Monroe, but what can you do.
Yes, I like it, more now that we're moving away from the creature of the week episodes (not that I don't enjoy those) and getting to the deeper story-arch with all sorts of politics in play. Mmm politics. For reference, see my love of DS9 and Babylon 5.
I'll put rest behind the cut just in case.
I found Nick a little too... bland to begin with, but the more badass he gets, the more interesting he is, possibly largely due to the fact that his character is getting some meatier emotions to deal with rather than 'puzzled' and 'confused'. However, his refusal to even try explain thinks to Juliette or Hank was getting douchier and douchier by the episode. Everytime Nick just sat there looking constipated instead of even trying to say something I wanted to smack him. Of course the outcome was excpected in the finale but hey, at least he opened his mouth.
It took me a while to buy his relationship with Juliette. And not just because of my intense Nick/Monroe feels, but because (typically) it's taken the writers a whole season to give Juliette any kind of personality or characterisation that isn't just 'girlfriend'. However, having her a) punch the Dämonfeuer in the face, b) turn down Nick's proposal because essentially he's been a lying dick (I literally shouted 'good girl!' at that scene), and c) invite Monroe for dinner even though the guys were being unnecessarily awkward about the whole thing, made me warm to her considerably.
Obviously I've only seen a few episodes of Rosalee but what I've seen so far is all good. I'm fully aware of the Rosalee/Monroe direction things are heading (even without the spoilers, the writers aren't exactly subtle about it) and I'm actually rather looking forward to it. Please tell me it will at least be the most awkward courtship ever? Because that would be fun.
Hank, Wu and Renard are all interesting too. Renards is the most interesting when he makes people kneel and I hope there's going to be more of that :D Hank needs some action that isn't the deadly kind. Just saying.
However, my favourite character by far is Monroe. Those surprised should... I don't know, pay more attention, because really? NO ONE SHOULD BE SURPRISED BY THIS. I have a massive 'surprise competency' kink and man he hits it hard. It's the whole 'oh this geek with sweaters and cello-playing and model-train collecting? Yeah, he'll rip your throat out if need be. But really, he's a nice guy." fdkjaklgjkfkjsa Everytime he woges out I have to pause and rewatch that clip like three times and have a not so little moment. I tend to be disappointed if the episode doesn't have at least one scene of him acting wolfish: scening, stalking, tracking, fighting... Mmmm. So yeah. Monroe. I'll have me some of that.
That's the characters. Let's talk about fic. I've been slowly working through the Nick/Monroe fics on AO3, starting from the earliest (keeping to season 1 stuff as don't want to spoil myself). Granted I haven't looked elsewhere and granted I haven't read everything (if it doesn't intrigue me or is very short I'll skip it) so this is a qualified opinion but... I am disappoint son. So far I've come across a lot of quite average fic with characterisation that just doesn't ring true to me at all (ymmv of course), some quite, erm, not very great fic at all, and only a handful of stories that have made go 'yes that'.
There is also a disappointing lack of fics about Monroe losing control. I mean, they exist, but... I don't know, not explored at the kind depth or length I want. Yeah, yeah I know 'whaa, whaa why isn't fandom providing for my subjective neeeeeeeds' but c'mon! I want a fic where someone uses Nick as leverage to make Monroe lose control. Maybe they're kidnapped and the perps threaten to kill Nick unless Monroe becomes their enforcer/fighter (seriously, why is this cliche not written yet?). Oooh, or maybe a perp gets a bit too familiar (if you get my drift) with Nick and taunts Monroe ('how does it feel, seeing me touching what you can't have?'). Or... so many possibilities,so few no fics that really explore this :((
Finally, and I'm going to have to ask even though it isn't my kink really, but where the hell is all the watersports fic? I mean come the fuck on! It's canon that Monroe pissed around his yard to mark his territory! Him marking Nick as his in the most obvious way possible is practically begging to be written and if you're seriously telling me that no one in the Grimm fandom has yet managed it, I'm going to lose all faith in rule 34! Say it isn't so! And say that I don't actually have to write it myself because... Well. Idk really. An excuse not to would be nice.
Anyway. Roll on season 2. And fic. Because fic is still happening.
Now, I know I promised actual recs but there seem to be more of those than expected so they'll be in a separate post which I should get around to within a few days.

Rosalee and Monroe are awesome and are like the one het couple I would hit in all ways, but who I just love.
I couldn't deal with Juliette at all - not because she's Nick's girlfriend because you know doesn't bother me, but becasue she was so meh. Season 3 Juliette is the most awesome ever I feel.
I'm all for grimmleading you for writing watersports fic. Gets out red and black pom poms :)
Also have snagged Monroe iconage from you cos they're awesome.

Sigh. I refuse to accept this fandom hasn't produced a 'Monroe pisses on Nick' fic already because seriously, massive fail.

I have to admit, despite keeping up with the show pretty well, I never got too deep into the fandom, probably because when I glanced around at what was out there during Season 1, there wasn't that much of it and I was kind of meh about a lot of what was there. There were some fics I enjoyed, but somehow it never built up any momentum for me, fandom-wise. But maybe I'll go back and check it out again. Or maybe I'll just read what you write. :)

I don't know how active the fandom is... There seems to be fic and graphs etc going on, some really lovely stuff of DeviantArt where I spent a happy hour browsing through. I gather there was an exchange at some point but... Yeah, it's a small one.
I'll post some recs soon so maybe you'll find something you'll like. And I am working on a continuation to my fic so more from me too :)

Season 1 ended up with Nick's mum turning up. I'm three eps into season 2 now and happy that Hank has been told about the Wesen etc, and intrigued to see how the Juliette amnesia plot plays out.
Wu is funny and sarky, I hope he gets more plot lines too. And Renard... mmmm, yeah I'm seeing the appeal. Having him writhing naked and in pain on the floor from the 'pure of heart' potion was most entertaining ;)

I'm slowly working my way too season 2 at the moment, have recently swooned over Monroe taking Rosalee to the most awkward and adorable picnic date and then clutched my heart as he buried Angelina.
