Haha it's a writing meme no one cares

***

Seriously, I've had a very long week. Yesterday I had 3 lectures. Which I gave. 2x2h + 1x3h and then I attended a fourth one. Now I need to clean and tomorrow I still need to do some lecture prep and clean more. I have many tabs open that I should comment on. I have laptop I should be buying. And... idek, other things that I've failed at. So hey, what's one more.

Grill the (Grumpy) Writer Meme

Ask a question about my writing and I'll try to answer it:

1) What I was thinking at the time I wrote a story/series or a question about my writing as a whole. It can be absolutely anything including about my WsIP. (I don't post WIPs, they're all on my hard-drive and I don't like to talk about them so there)

2) Pick a character/pairing I've written and I will explain the top five some ideas, concepts, etc. I try to keep in mind while writing that character/pairing.

3) Quote a few lines from something I've written and I'll comment on them.

4) At AO3 I have posted xx works. Pick a number from 1 (the most recent) to xx (the first story I posted there) and I'll tell you three things I currently like about the story. IDK why this is so complicated a question and also, as much as I love AO3, the casual assumption that everyone posts fics there is annoying. Well. I do post most of my fics there. But not all, e.g. none of the [livejournal.com profile] unmarked_place stuff is there because of reasons. Anyway, rather than play with numbers, why not just randomly select a story and then I can tell you some things about it. Probably not 3 and probably not why I like it. But things.

Oh yeah, you can find my fics via LJ Masterlist or via AO3.

I'm greedy so I'm going to ask two:

1. What were you thinking about when you wrote the stories in the Dream of Dragons series? What was important to you as you wrote?

4. What do you like about Claim? *reads story for the eleventy-seventh time*

Greediness is allowed :)

'Dream of Dragons' - This is a verse where I'm less a writer and more a storyteller; it unfolds as I write. Beyond a vague idea, for none of them I've had any clear plot line worked out when I start. Essentially: I don't know what's going to happen and the story comes out of the process of telling. Things I keep in mind... There's a degree of magical realism, there's always more happening under the surface than the characters really know about and in general things may not be what they seem. There's a bigged plot going on, though I'm not entirely clear what it is yet... I can say that I have the next instalment ready to post and things move forward in that somewhat especially for Hathaway... Hopefully will have time/energy to post it this Sunday :)

'Claim' - Hee, I'm continually amused how much people have enjoyed this fic. I think it has less to do with any quality and more with the fact that I think I got there first in Lewis fandom with this particular trope. Which just goes to show that there will always be market for werewolf AUs... I wrote this fic really quickly and it was supposed to be even shorter than it was. I like the world-building in it, and in general power imbalance is a theme that I love writing, whether it's d/s dynamic, or a more structured/formalised way like here with the pack hierarchies and how those would play out in a society.

I love the idea that Dream of Dragons unfolds as you write it! And I also love that there's a new episode ready to post!

Claim: Hmm. Yes, it's true that you were the first (and only so far?) to write a Lewis werewolf AU, but I don't think that's all there is to why I love this story. I agree that the power imbalance is delicious (Alpha!Lewis is a lovely thing!), and you also evoke their wolfiness so fabulously:
"If he was in wolf-form, Robbie is sure his ears would be flattened and his tail tucked in" etc. I think giving us both human and wolf view of what's going in with them and between them, is so evocative.

Hee yes, 8k of new Dream of Dragons hopefully coming up this Sunday.

Possibly only, or was there a werewolf thingy written for the Fright Fest? I didn't have time to read most of the entries so maybe I'm imagining things... Regardless, thank you very much for your lovely comments on the fic, I get ridiculously excited when someone quotes stuff back at me so yay :D

It is fantastic! Gushing comment left on AO3 :-)
