It’s been very quiet around LJ for a while (at least on my flist, where are all you people?) but, for me, the other social networking platforms just don’t fill the hole of blogging and interacting and talking with people and writing about things at length, like LJ does. So, in a concentrated effort to be a part of the solution, not the problem, I’m doing something inspired by the 100 Things Challenge (sadly, it doesn’t seem to be updating any more so I haven’t officially signed up).

*pause for collective snort of disbelief.

Yes, it’s true. No, I don’t know if I’ll ever finish it but that’s not really the point for me. The point is to have a reason for creating LJ content and to do the things that I have signed up to do. I’ve divided the 100 things into two groups, so I’m doing 50 books I've read with short reviews (including work-related academic books) and 50 recipes I’ve tried/created with comments. Doing both with only a few months' 'backlog' so everything is recent stuff, not something I read/cooked years ago.

I’ll be posting both in the groups of 5 as I finish the books/recipes so watch out for those under the relevant tags.

Speaking of quiet LJ and creating content, I have two other ideas but I would like to know if anyone (read: YOU) would be interested in joining in and pimping them. Because otherwise I’ll be all sad and pathetic :(

Idea 1. Fandom-friendly friending meme, tentatively titled ‘Still LJ’ing!’ – I’ve seen a couple single-fandom ones going on and then I’ve seen some general ones, but a) I’m chronically multifandom and b) the latter sometimes appears to attract people who are vehemently anti-fandom, which makes me sad.

Idea 2. Anonymous porn meme – For people to talk about porn/erotica (fanfic, commercial fic, pics, art, clips, films etc.), e.g. likes, dislikes, turn-ons, turn-offs, recs, opinions, dirty jokes, serious commentary, requests, fills, random porny ficlets…

So… thoughts, comments, suggestions?

See I kept meaning to do that 100 Things Challenge and then couldn't decide what the hell to do it on :) And we know that although I try regularly to post poems, and also graphics that's about it.

I like idea 2 - anonymous porn meme. I'm wary of idea 1, because as I've mentioned above I don't post much other than poems/graphics. I tend not to talk about my life as you know on LJ, unless it's something that really is bothering me. I'm not a chatter :D But then I was complaining that LJ was too quiet, and there are maybe only a handful of people on my flist posting so maybe it is worth doing. Is indecisive :)

You could still do 100 things of poems/quotes or something. Or, another thing I've seen, is the 'blog every day for a month' thing - doesn't matter what you post, just post something.

Anonymous porn meme appeals to me for selfish reason, maybe someone will rec some actually good porn? There's plenty of good fanfic out there but why is no one making the type of films that I'd actually find hot to watch? 99% of porn clips I've seen only manages to opposite of what they're supposed to do.

You could still pimp the friending meme? And you could join in, just don't make false promises to post a lot of every day ramblings - maybe someone out there really likes to have regular poems and graphics and less regular fic on their flist? :)

I would definitely help pimp out both your ideas -I would also do the friending meme and possibly the anon. porn meme, too; although, I can't promise that I would actually be able to write anything for it.

Also, your 100 things ideas sound cool, too; I love reading people's opinions on books and I'm always looking for new recipes to try out.

Yay, that's good to know. You're one of the most active posters on my flist and I like knowing that most days at least you have posted something worth refreshing my flist for :)

Anon porn meme would happily accept general comments about porn or porn recs as well as writing things. :D

I read a fair bit anyway (granted, more work-related academic books that I often skim rather than read word-for-word) and do quite a bit of cooking and baking, so this is kind of like additional motivation for both. I'm compiling the first 5 of both books and recipes at the moment and hope to post them over the next week or so.

LJ is sorrowfully quiet, and I'm not being much help because all I post these days is fanfic for stuff where I'm a fandom-of-one! I love drabbling - perhaps we could get some kind of f'list drabble challenge going, or something? IDK...

LJ is very quiet, I think maybe about 20% of my flist is posting still. Most people seem to have moved on. Hee, yes, I see you posting fic in fandom I know nothing about which is why I've been skipping them.

Drabble challenge... that sounds intriguing. What kind of challenge did you have in mind? I would totally join in :D

LJ is quiet - even on my dinky flist, although there are still some folks around who are faithfully regular. I will admit to being more part of the problem than part of the solution though. I blame life - I can barely keep up with comment notifications/responses, let alone actualfax posting at the moment.

I'd be interested in your academic books though, even if no-one else would :)

On your ideas:

Fandom friending meme sounds good to me. I am larely allergic to most anonymous memes though - they seem to attract wank like moths to flames and I tend to just avoid them wholescale as a result.

LJ is quiet and Dreamwidth is quieter - though there are corners of both with manic activity. I would read the porn thingy but might not actually join in - I seem to be drowning in AO3 stuff when I'm not doing RL things or writing. I hate Blogger, I don't really get the point of Tumblr, I don't have a Facebook page and I don't Tweet. So LJ and Dreamwidth are my spiritual home. I have my Wordpress blog, but whilst you can have a good 'chat' with one 'follower' it's harder to set up any kind of communal feeling. Looking forward to your posts!

There certainly are active communities still on both LJ and DW, just seems that a lot of individuals that used to brighten my flist have moved on. I filter out communities from my flist so it tends to be quiet.

Like you, I don't have and don't want FB and can't really deal with Tumblr's format for the kind of interaction I want. I have Twitter that I use occasionally when I remember.

Wheee! I'm thinking of setting up porn meme tomorrow in the hopes of lots of awesome porny things for the weekend (especially as I'm working the uni open day on Saturday... it makes me feel good knowing that while I'm pretending to a respectable academic, I have lots of awesome sexy things to come home to :D)
