Robin Hood 3.01 – Total Eclipse (of the heart)
Do you know that’s been well over a year since the end of season 2 and my last episode review? Call me a sap (because I am) but I’ve missed Robin Hood Saturdays more than I thought possible! I’ve missed the squee and the tree!porn and the comment-ficcing and the OH MUCH and god, more than anything I’ve missed all of you! RH remains the fandom of my heart, largely because this is the fandom where I met some truly shiny people who went from fellow fangirls to friends in less time than it takes Allan to pick a tight pocket. So excuse me for being a little emotional... *wipes surreptitious tear*

General: I have issues, mainly... 1. WHAT’S UP WITH MUCH-BASHING, WRITERS? HAVE YOU NOT LEARNT YOUR LESSON YET? DON’T MAKE ME COME OVER THERE AND TEACH IT TO YOU WITH A BRICKWALL. 2. Anyone else think that Robin’s change of heart was a little too fast? Like his “rar vengeance” was annoying and stupid but understandable. I have a feeling they’re now just going to bury the Marian issue as effectively as Robin buried her ring, and make room for the new female character who I fear will be an inevitable love interest for Robin... Sigh. 3. I fucking miss Will and Djaq. ;_;
However, despite everything, I still love the show. It’s so good to see everyone again, the fight-scenes and the cheesiness and the historical inaccuracies ... Love it all. It’s Robin Hood, and I’m like physically incapable of not loving it. It’s kinda like a naughty puppy that pees on your floor but is too adorable to actually kick out.

He is! is hairstyle not only makes him look like his hair is thinning (it's worse when it's wet, which made this episode especially unfortunate), it also makes him look like his has a huge, overhanging forehead. Then again, that might've been all that unattractive scowling he was doing. Can you tell I'm still angry at him?

The thing is: I can't really imagine Much having sex. With anybody. I mean, there are a few exceptions, but I think Sam Troughton got it right when he said he sees Much as asexual. This show has made me cynical when it comes to way Much is treated. I'm kind of expecting him to get beaten on both mentally and physically every episode now and if he doesn't... well, then that's an awesome surprise.

Guy's angsty hair of tortured woe sort of hilariously grew on me. I like crazy Guy who throws people off of cliffs, and onto tables.
Robin's weird schoolboy haircut didn't grow on me, though it was fun to watch get tied up and fed while still being petulant.

I thought Tuck was VERY touchy - stripping Robin, holding him, stroking Guy's face...
Much - was beautiful throughout, none more so than when being tortured. (And Keith Allen does that really intense close up letch/torture thing so very well. ) Brave beautiful Much. I really really dislike Robin and it's very hard to watch wanting Much to be made happy, but knowing that such a thing would always involve Robin.
(Who never mind his hair, did you see his puffy cheeks?)
Erm. Oh yeah and the eclipse thing? Enid Blyton did that years ago in one of her adventure books - nice to see where the writers get their ideas from!

Tuck's touchy-feely hands-on approach to preaching is teetering on that edge between creepy and hilarious. Though I approved of him punching Robin. A lot.
Much is irrevocably tangled with Robin and I don't think he'll ever be able to live a full life without him... which makes this season's potential ending all the worse.

Sam Troughton is out-acting pretty much everyone else in that show... Oh bb, totally under-appreciated...
I'm in total support of Science vs Religion arguments if they were had by Djaq and Tuck. Even though they would probably happily compromise since Djaq still retained her core faith and Tuck seem very rational with his moon calendars and punching Robin (another thing Djaq would count in his favour).
