Wheel of Time Tripple Drabble: Ensnared

***

Title: Ensnared
Author:[personal profile] kat_lair
Fandom: Wheel of Time (books and TV)
Pairing: Lanfear | Cyndane/Moghedien
Tags: Implied/Referenced Dubious Consent,Triple Drabble
Rating: T
Word count: 300

Summary: Thrice Moghedien catches Lanfear and thrice she lets her go. Or does she?

Author notes: Fifth of the [community profile] fandomtrees fics, this one written for [personal profile] brushpen. I've tagged this for the books and TV as I think it works for both canons. There are some small (name, location) spoilers though if you've only seen the TV series.

Ensnared on AO3

First is in the room of her return. The shock on Lanfear’s face when the One Power encases her is pure and nourishing like spring water after centuries of desert. The weaves are brittle and sharp because Moghedien is brittle and sharp still, newly woken, and hungry.

She could crush her there and then, and Lanfear knows it. Not permanently, no, the Dark Lord would bring her back and probably punish Moghedien for the inconvenience, but even so, it’s tempting. Almost worth it. But in the end, she lets Lanfear go.

She’s too still. Moghedien likes it when they struggle.

Second is in Tel’aran’rhiod. Lanfear is good, very good, but she’s not the best, no matter what she claims.

Moghedien is. She watches Lanfear walk the World of Dreams, wary at first, looking for but never finding her. It’s not in Lanfear’s nature to be anything but arrogant and confident though and eventually her guard slips, just like Moghedien knew it would.

Her weaves are strong now, pliant and silky soft and unbreaking, a beautiful web for a beautiful prey.

And this time Lanfear struggles. Beautifully.

“What will you pay?” Moghedien asks, caressing Lanfear’s pale cheek. “To not die here?”

Third is in the world of flesh, in a nondescript townhouse in Illian because it amuses Moghedien to do this on Sammael’s doorstep. He’ll know and can’t do anything about it. That amuses Moghedien more.

“Here we are again.” A flick of her fingers tightens the weaves around Lanfear to suffocating. She could make it hurt, but she makes it feel good instead.

“What do you want?” Lanfear gasps, a sheen of sweat on her upper lip. Moghedien can’t wait to taste it.

“For you to keep your promise, Mierin.” Moghedien releases her for the final time. “And stop running.”

Excellent! Not the most appropriate icon, I know, but I don't have anything else!

Well Moiraine does look a bit like she's done with whatever is happening there, so I'd say that, on the contrary, it is particularly fitting: it's bad enough that she had to deal with Lanfear, she should have retired before Moghedien joined the fun!

It's probably as well Moraine, or any of us for that matter, had no idea what might be in store!

Your exploration of their dynamic was quite a delight to read! With only 300 words you managed to capture Lanfear's personality, and, as I have yet to be introduced to Moghedien in the books, I can also add that show!Moghedien definitely does look like she'd enjoying toying with Lanfear a lot...
